    conflicting reports???????

hey again guys, still trying to make that elusive top grade track, opinions on this please, i have read many posts and comments and have found that a lot of riders like great flow and say flow is the most important thing and any obstacles that slow u down are a major mistake, ok good point in that but then i have read another side to this where some riders are saying that tracks where there are plenty of obstacles that stop flow are great also. ok so are both sides purely opinionated or is there a common ground u have to find and have a good flow to the track with obstacles in the way? or should u just separate these tracks and either make one or the other? thanks guys

Here's my take on it: Think of these two tracks from Single Player; Bridge of Trials and Roller Coaster. You could argue that both have flow, but if you put something on the middle of the roller coaster track you destroy that track's flow. Also, although it would be less annoying than having rough obstacles on roller coaster, it wouldn't fit the feel of the flow to have big loops and smooth flowy jumps on Bridge of Trials.

That's not to say you can't have some of both worlds (smooth and rough flow), but you will probably have more of one over the other in your track. anyway that's my two cents.

Both are good. But if you wanna have a fast track with occasional technical parts, be sure to slow the rider down so ya don't slam into it. Like adding an uphill part just before a few barrels.

    their is
like when their is a car(car or anyother that requires you to stop) in the middle of the driveline after a while of no obstacle

    My two cents.....

Obstacles can be done so that the better riders take them without pause but there is room for weaker riders to slow down before attempting them. This should apply to most obstacles in a track imo.

If there is a checkpoint the obstacle needs to be acheivable from that point. But if someone approaches it without faulting, they also need to able to tackle it without pause and without the added speed causing a problem. So when building I always test an obsatcle from the nearest CP and from the previous CP. This means I am effectively testing it for both skill levels. Obviously, I test from the start of the track as well to make sure the whole trac kworks effectively.

Remember as well, flow does NOT mean you have the accelerator held down all the time. Flow means you dont have to stop to avoid a sharp leading edge, a car, etc. You can maintain momentum. Momentum = flow. Maybe not the clearest explanation of flow, but I think it might be the simplest one imo.

Take The Wreck in SP as an example. Most of us have to pause for the obstacles and can. But the top riders fly straight through the track because it flows if its done right. The pausing is down to rider choice and not necessity.

Its a tricky thing to explain I find, but hopefully this might help you in some way at least.

I think it depends on your goal for the track man. Some people really like fast moving flowy tracks (not my personal cup of tea...), some people like slower technical tracks you have to really fight to find a flow in. One thing you probably wanna avoid is trying to put both into the same track.
