New Moan - Is the Level Editor to Over Complicated?

It took me a little while to get used to the Level Editor in HD, but i finally got there with the help of a few you tube vids .... With Trials Evo tho, its like looking at a manual from NASA, n when ure dsylexic its like looking at a manual from Russia.

Now like any person, ive looked at the "youtube" help vids and yes they explain how to use the editor, but they just run thru them very quickly like they think "all" people are going to understand what they mean and i often find myself seeking out other vids, with a more "laymans" explanation on how to use the tools. It really feels like im an old person with no experience of how to use a computer, then someone comes along with a manual a goes " right i need the processor changing here`s a manual, get on with it??"

I still cant get my head around it and most of my new tracks are totally friggin boring cos i cant figure out the "over complicated" editor. I cannot just use the "lite" editor as i cannot use half the setting avalible.

Im having a rant about this due to me trying to to build a simple rope bridge "simple" being the word that i laugh at reguallry, cos its anything but > <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=10501&p=160274#p160274">viewt opic.php?f=83&t=10501&p=160274#p160274</a><!-- l --> <

I have a post on the left > a rope bridge in the middle < and a post to the right

I turn on the physics for the bridge,
now if i do not glue to anything and hit the "back button to turn on physics" the bridge falls to the floor,
so the logical thing to do is to glue it to the posts, once i do this i hit the back button again and now bridge as well as the posts have physics and everything falls to the floor, so the logical thing to do is to turn the physics off for the post, i LB select them, go into properties .. no option to turn off physics .. thus making the whole thing a right "F**KING" annoying situation!!!!

Looking at other posts about the same problem, seems like a lot of people have buggered the idea off and made the bridge so its just a floating bridge, i dont want that > <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://www.redlynxgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=152343">viewtopic.php?p=152343</a><!-- l -->

Can anyone point me towards a video tutorial that has been made specifically for stupid people ie .. taking everything step by step .... rrr im so angry atm!!!!

You have to take the posts out of the glue group to turn their physics off.

The editor is really user-friendly for what you can do with it.

This. It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, by all means use people here for help but most of what I've learned thus far I did through experimenting with the various things avalible in the editor.

If i do that then the rope bridge falls to the floor cos its not attached to anything

You should be able to use a physics joint to attach the ends of the bridge to the post. Use point to point if you just want it to hang and select the post as item 1 and the end of the bridge as item 2. Use one for both sides. I think it's under common, I haven't got the editor open right now but it's under the first tab. The editor does seem danting at first, but just play around with it and it will all make sense eventually.

You need to use a physics joint to attach the bridge to each post.

My first thoughts for this editor were the same, I felt that a bunch of the more simple tasks were overly complicated. After spending enough time with the editor, you will start to see that simplifying anything would take away from some of the possibilities. It is one of the most powerfull editors for any game released, and its fairly simple when you consider how much can be done with it.

Ok . so now ive used the physics joints and managed to glue the bloody thing, however when i hit the back button to see if it works, the bridge just spins horizontally on the driving line ??? ive tried moving these red circles about ( wtf do they do?? )

Can i say that obviously the level editor is too complicated, if its taking me a whole friggin week to make a bloody rope bridge, then something is wrong in my eyes, in HD all u had to do was to glue the object and turn on physics, in evo u need a mind like an engineer, its ok for the peeps it clicks with, but to all that it doesnt it puts "another" big red stamp on the game, if i bumped into one of the devs of this game i would gladly head butt them at the mo!!

The "red thing" is the joints hinge point. Please, Watch this video . In fact, Please go through all of them.

One thing to remember is when you make a joint to the rope, it connects to wherever you click on the rope. Make sure when you select the rope as one of the objects, you click it near the end of the rope.

You need to use a physics joint to attach the bridge to each post.

    ^^^ this...
Physics joint (in the common menu)
Add one to each post and bridge end.
    Turn on 'disable collision'
I always use the fixed post as Target 1 and bridge as Target 2
Select pivots and position them at the ends of the bridge.
    Turn physics on for bridge.
    Voila...
