I personally think one of the hardest parts of making a track is, beginning. I never know where to place my spline points and I have trouble making the first obstacle. Is this the same for anyone else?
I agree that starting a track is by far the hardest part. I never know which section of the editor map to lay my track out on. I usually start detail 1st because that's what my ideas consist of, a theme or idea for detail and then the line gets built around the detail.
But since is never know where to start my track in the editor world I have trouble coordinating my detail so it doesn't look like crap. When I start a track, if I don't like how the detail looks within like 15 minutes of building I delete the track every time.
I have never considered building the decoration first. I will have to try this out. I wish there was an area similar to Initiative Industries but instead was flat grassland.Originally Posted by xPrOFeSsi0NaL
You have the tools...make it happen...Originally Posted by LukeMSki
You can only make so much custom flat ground though. The terrain tool takes up so much complexity. I tried making a large area of flat ground and then conceding it with sand, similar to how Oil Crisis is laid out.Originally Posted by RACFinest
With all the flat tools and then the surface tools and then the small hills and such it took up so much complexity I just deleted the track.
My lack of experience caused me to need alot of terrain mods for my first track which caused lag. Finding a start point other than in the sky is really annoying.Originally Posted by xPrOFeSsi0NaL
Agreed...you really have to use trial and error when working with the terain tools but with enough effort you can make it happen...had similar issues when making my supercross track
Erm.....just lay grass over initiative industries.
I always build my line first so I can make sure the obstacles all work right and flow together so that I dont have to try and "fit/force" them into the scenery. Then I build around the line. That makes sure the line is solid as nothing ruins a track more for me personally than a crappy line, so thats always my priority. But everyones different and I'm not saying that scenery first will guarantee a bad line. I've not tried it that way myself, thats all.
I know that there are alot that build their line first.this is probably the most effective way to biuld a track, but for me, i tend to start my line then build my details and decoration around the line in this manner.if i have a more better idea on deco, then i pursue this, and add the line after or at the same time..it might seem a bit arse about face, but this is how ive always done it,so i generally stick to what i feel i know best..
