I made a pressure system and top I have a a metal disc object. I want to ride on top of it and hit a trigger that makes the metal disc lift me up in the air like 100 feet or so. So far I have a area trigger going to impulse trigger. That then goes to a effect event which goes to steam effect. Impulse trigger then goes to a physics event on which goes to the metal disc. Then I have the impulse to state event which goes a directional force that targets the metal disc ... So I need that metal disc to lift me up a 100 feet or so. All it does is drop down. Any help please???
Instead of directional force, try a Physics Joint set to Slider and turn it's linear motor on.
directional forces have to be glued to an object to do something
This will work.Originally Posted by bobozilla
Alternatively, you can try adjusting the force settings in the directional force. Make sure it's nothing silly like the force pointing in the wrong direction, or not turned on or connected to the disk. Then try increasing the force of the forcewhich might not be strong enough.
If that doesn't work try an area effector instead of a directional force, and get it to only affect the metal disk, then turn it on with a Trigger -> Set Value Event -> Variable data source linked to the "Enabled" checkbox in the area effector.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for all the help kinda getting it.
When I use the physics joint slider it works pretty well. I want it to look more natural then that like not do much from point a to point b... If that makes sense. Also want the disc to rock back and forth in the air just a little if this is possible.
When I try try area effector like you said which I don't understand set value events and variable data sources very well though. If try it with that or with a state event going to the area effector the disc barely moves on the ground.
When i try the directional force most of the time the disc would fly off and sometimes I would ride with it but not doing what I want at all but it would be very fun sometimes cause I would ride the disc upside down while the disc did flips lol.
Sorry I'll try and explain better.Originally Posted by whitewolfx12
If you open up the properties of the area affecter, about half way down is a checkbox for "Enabled". If you highlight this and press "Y" you can link it to a data source, so press "Y" and then select a variable data source.
A variable data source is just a number that you can change to whatever you like. If it links to a checkbox, "0" is unchecked, and "1" is checked. The default is "0" which is what you want.
Then get yourself a "Set value event" and open up it's properties. Change the value it sets to "1", and then scroll down to "Select event/filter" and select your Variable data source.
Now set whatever trigger you have to the Set value event, and this will turn on the Area effector.
The reason the disk barely moves could be a few things, try these:
1) Open up area effector properties, and make sure the "Fade" slider is at "0". The default is "100" so slide it over to the left.
2) Open up the force settings, and increase the value of the force.
3) Make the area affecter larger
4) Open up the properties of the metal disk, and reduce its mass to make it lighter.
All of these will increase the movement of the disk, the first three are the best options, reducing the mass of the disk could have unfortunate side affects.
Hope that wasn't too technical.
No not to technical I understand all that. Thanks I will try all that next time i play.
Ok thanks I did all that but still having trouble.
"Then get yourself a "Set value event" and open up it's properties. Change the value it sets to "1", and then scroll down to "Select event/filter" and select your Variable data source"
The select event/filter would not work I used select event target instead and that works like before. I keeping messing this and most of the time the disc just goes wild. I tried using more area effectors in a line but no luck.
I can go back to using physics joint slider but I need some help. I like how the disc takes off from the air pressure. What I need fixed is 3/4 of the way up or so I want physics to turn on and stop making the slider work at the same time. I think this will fix my problem. Reply or message me on my GT:whitewolx12
