Do you think that it is a good way to make a track harder to use less checkpoints? Personally I think you should put checkpoints wherever it won't effect the next obstacle.
Lack of checkpoints is a poor attempt at trying to make a track "harder".
In my opinion, it would be similar to having terrible custom camera angles to make a track "harder".

Use as many CPs as is appropriate. So dont put them in the middle of an obstacle just for the sake of it, but use them after every obstacle if you want to. The top riders want to 0 fault so ignore cp's. Lesser riders need cp's to finish the track. If you rely on few cps to make a track difficult its simply bad, lazy design. Just like making obstacles "awkward" to make them hard is bad, lazy design. It all comes down to poor design imo.
The final up ramp in DCR is much "harder" because the camera angle changes at the end. For some reason it never bothered me, and seems appropriate. I'm not sure why. I point that out because, while I agree with you generally, it can be done well.Originally Posted by Yoshi
I disagree with you about the last part of DCR where the camera angle changes. I think that part is very unnecessary and annoying. I can do it consistently but I still find it to be poor design. In fact, in my opinion DCR is a very poorly designed track in many aspects.Originally Posted by ThunderDuck
Camera angles can change the difficulty of a track from medium to extreme. Out of the Pit is an example of this.
I hate DCR, especially those stupid cars after the telephone poles.Originally Posted by NonRedOrchid
Some of the hardest tracks I have played (in HD and EVO) are made difficult due to long obstacles. Kinda multistep ones, where you gotta get across a string of obstacles, but no checkpoint could work in the middle. Its all in how it is designed and how the it all works together. Sometimes you need momentum from the previous part to get over the next. Sometimes the platforms are too small to have a CP. It all depends on how well it is all put together.
I know when I am making a really difficult track, I try to get each obstacle close to the same difficulty level, I try to balance it all out the best I can. This usually involves taking the longer obstacles and toning the difficulty down a tad...
Or taking the shorter obstacles and increasing the difficulty a notch or two!!Originally Posted by jook13![]()
