    Checkpoints for custom game character

    Is it possible?

    OPE seems like the only way as a substitute.

    yes it is possible, just use generic filters to read a VDS and enable an OPE when you hit a trigger. Each trigger should send an impulse to a SVE that targets the VDS. You can also make it so that the B button will respawn you at the last checkpoint that you enabled.
