There are only 2 things that i think are better in trials Evo and there are the new envioment and that you can now download anybodys custom made track.
Yes i know ive been on here allready moaning about the game and yes im also aware that i had a turn around and changed my opinion on that topic, but after going back and playing a brief session on HD i can now say why i think its better.
The 2 things that Evo has better are mediocre reasons, this is because with any new release you would expect a new updated graphics package anyway and also the option to download custom tracks should have been in the first game.![]()
My main gripe with this game is the physics, there is way too much hang time (even when u hardly leave the ground) making it very akward trying to understand the physics behind it, in Trials HD i felt they had nailed it on the head, there was a sense due to the way the bike(s) handled that there was some "real" weight on the bike(s) present in the game, i really dont know why red lynx felt they had to change this, im mean at least have a different bike - the phoenix does not feel the same as in HD, and this is due to the "lack of gravity/hang time" in the game.
I have talked about the "jellyarse/rocking horse" problem (when u find ureself shifting back and forth just to stay on the same spot) and again this is due to the "lack of gravity/hang time", every now and again you are bound to make a mistake, in HD this was combated by hitting the brake/gas ( depending on ure stance ) and then shifting ure body postiion to adjust the bike(it feels like ure riding on the moon), in Trials Evo this is only succesful and handful of times and i regualry find myself in "rocking horse" mode even with the gentlest of touches, i thought this was just my problem until i noticed when playing online against much much higher ranked players that they would experience it too (quite a bit!) Also in HD whilst mid air the bike was more responsive u could correct a bad bounce or dodgy take off, in Evo its feel like the weight is attched to the player only .. great for flips but not for control.
Some people might argue that another good thing about Evo is that you can play online ... yeh this is nice when it works properly - the connection settings and the opponent preference dont work together properly, im currently rank 13, i have my connection settings to fast join and preference set to matching skill, Im constantly finding that im competeing against people ranked 40 and above and also their connection is so bad that u cant even see the ghost (so what the point?) not really an online feel, so not much point playing? If i set it to low latency, again im often playing rank 40 and above and again their connections are poo ... ruling it out for me!!
Any good computer game that has managed to bring out a sequel has always improved on the handling (Grand Turismo/SSX/GTA/Battlefield etc) Trials Evo hasnt for me, its taken a step backwards! If Red Lynx released another pack for HD, i`d buy it ... when they do it for Evo .... im not.
Evo might look nice and have a lot of content but I dont know if its my xbox overheating/slowing down, my pad that is old, a bad internet connection or that im just ****e at the game, but i dont have these problems in Trials HD, making it a better "playable" game for me.
It would be nice to hear people`s opinions on this, but im gonna suggest, play HD for a bit with the phoniex, then flip back to Evo and u`ll notice the "lack of gravity" problem straight away!!
feels like the opposite to me... hd is now a bouncy midget with 20% of the control taken away when i went back to it.![]()
When Evo first came out I felt the same way, but it was new and I wanted to try it, after a couple weeks I was enjoying Evo much more than THD. I even went back to HD just to see and I liked Evo better, it sounds like you haven't been playing Evo for very long. If thats true, keep going and I'm sure you'll get better, which will make the game more enjoyable.
If you gave me the phoenix from HD and let me ride the exact tracks in HD, I would demolish my times. It has so much more control and I am in love with that bike. Overall, the physics does take some getting used to but it is an improvement. As the others have said, give it a chance.
Also, the online lag issue isn't a real issue. scores are recorded locally and your game is played locally. There is a ghost that is available but that isnt a true reflection, just a guide. Scores are accurately compared at the end of the race. No issue IMO. Sure id like real time, ghosts and what not, but not possible, considering im playing a game that requires millisecond precision against people that are half a world away from me. I'll take that anyday. Compare it to games that are hosted locally on someones machine, and it makes the game unplayable for the others. At least with this, you each get to have a clean smooth run.
Waaaait a minute, do you mean the phoenix from Evo and the tracks from HD?Originally Posted by FatShady
I went back to HD recently and felt like I had shockingly less control. I do agree about correcting mid-air though. Counter-clockwise rotation seems a bit harder to get going in this one. Overall I very much prefer the Evo Phoenix and Scorpion.
yup, how the op feels the opposite is beyond me.Originally Posted by heetsauce

Let's get one thing straight OP, can you see the other ghosts online or not, one minute you say they're rocking horse just like you then the next you say you can't even see them??
Which one is it?
Sounds like the thread creator is making excuses for why he can't play this game as well as he could play THD. What is this rocking horse you speak of? I'm not familiar. Yes the physics model has been exaggerated even more but THD was never that realistic either. The physics represented reality but were way over the top, now they are even more over the top, but that's ok because its a game, if you want realism go jump on a trials bike and you'll see how 'realistic' THD was. Once you get to grips with the bike you have so much more control than you did on THD, in this game you can pretty much make the bike do what you want, acceleration/braking responsiveness is now extremely sensitive, as is the rider lean. For an inexperienced player this will definitely be a problem, there is much more room for error now, whereas you were always able to save yourself in THD.
Get to grips with the game and stop making excuses for yourself.
