    Rating addition.

    Hi guys,

New to the forum but massive trails fan, I'm not brilliant but cracking the top 10000.

I don't know about anyone else but I like to look for diamonds in the rough through track central, ok yes we can all go to red lynx picks and top 48h but I find some of the most interesting ones that don't get recognition because of a primitive rating system, I was speaking to a player who is in the top 150 and he also finds it extremely annoying when hard work goes unnoticed, the only way I can find to get 5* is by either making a track so difficult that only the very best players can rate it (people who take the game seriously and full credit to them) or to have a very simple track with a full motion cartoon in the background to keep the masses of school kids entertained while they hold down RT, my whole point is there should be extra merit behind the rating of those who take the game seriously (the top 500) and also I've found since I've made friends with the guy from the top 150 my track developing has improved because of constructive criticism which brings me to this question......... Why is there not a comments
section? I would love feed back on my tracks to improve my building and don't think it's to much to ask why I can't do that through the game.

    Rating addition.

Hey, welcome to the forums! I'll answer your questions/suggestions as well as I can.

    Weighted Ratings:

Shouldn't happen. Especially not for just the top 100, 500, 5000, or even 50,000.

500 leaves out 99.99% of Trials players. Why shouldn't their votes count? Yeah, some pretty odd tracks are rated highly, and I certainly do not always agree with them, but it's community driven. Can you really blame RedLynx for what over half a million people vote for (or don't vote for)? Placement doesn't really dictate play or commitment. Maybe someone loves the game but is just crap at it. It happens (same with me and GRFS). Because they aren't skilled, their vote should count less?

    About comments/messages:

Also the creator's gamer tag is shown on the track's info page it isn't that difficult to send feedback. Why not include it? Some people take far too much pleasure from abusing others as long as its easy for them. By having to type in the gt to send a message you remove a good portion of hate/anger filled nonsense.

    Re: Rating addition.

Thanks for the reply but I think your misunderstanding my point, I'm not saying the majority of voters shouldn't count I'm saying the top guys who take the game seriously should hold more weight behind there vote.....for instance if I walk up to a painting that's done by a famous artist and I turn round and say " yeah it's alright" I shouldn't have any one really take notice because I know nothing about art or the effort, techniques, time or patience that goes into it....with your system any one can walk up to said painting (track) and say 1* even tho I'm new and don't know anything about track building my vote is just as justified as a track builder who has tracks in the red lynx picks? I'm just saying we could be missing out because the masses don't take voting seriously.

As for the comments, people on youtube have a private message button but also a comments section, it would be alot more accessible to have a dedicated section along with our track, I understand that people don't send nice messages and like to be the virtual Hartman but I think when you complete a track along with your rating there we can offer and receive constructive criticism.

I think having to play the track at least twice before you can rate would be good. And/or have ratings for driveline, background, etc. It needs to be slightly more involved so people can't just quickly 5* everything.

Having the dedicated player's vote count more just isn't fair to everyone else. This is coming from a dedicated Trials player.

well even your idea is a good one, that would give everyone an indication on what needs improving by putting the rating into categories, at least I would know what I need to improve on.

    Re: Rating addition.

Sorry, my reply was badly written. I did if on an iPhone at 5:45am. When I said "their votes don't count" it was a lazy way of saying "their votes don't count as much".

    Expanding on your artwork metaphor:

Everyone paid the same price of admission to the gallery. If the gallery only shows the artwork that an elite few want to see, then the regular people will stop going to the gallery. Also, I would rather listen to what my peers/friends think about a piece of art than someone who looks at it from a totally different perspective.

Categories would be nice, but the problem now isn't that people are rating things incorrectly, it's that most people aren't rating things at all.

    Re: Rating addition.

These people that cant be bothered rating are letting the rating system down.i can guarantee that if i get 500 downloads for a track and only 30 ratings, this is because of my good friends that play the track.or at least 90% of the ratings are down to friends..i think that most people that play a track dont realise the importance of rating a tracks.more so if those people dont build tracks..
But,what can be done.its impossible to make people rate..it just wouldnt work if people were made to rate.they would 1* every track they play by continously tapping A in a hurry to move on...

can I ask when you chose your rating and its got no stars at all is that classed as not rating? Because your pickle is simply fixed, I always thought no stars was a rating and I bet the majority of others do to.
