As the topic says, I don't get it. Is it bugged or what? I'm off to a good start with 7 wins in 7 games, yet I'm somehow losing to guys that are 5/7, 4/14 etc. I haven't searched the entire forum for a Redlynx explanation so I'm sorry if I've missed something vital. But there's something quite unreasonable going on with these rankings.
I've got a lot of faith in Redlynx to fix most matters, it's just that this time things are going slowly and Redlynx aren't as vocal as they normally are. Now I understand the game is still very young and there's bound to be bugs, but I'd just like to know what's going on a little more than what is currently the case.
It isn't bugged as far as I know. I believe the points work in a trueskill type rating, where if you win against an opponent who isn't very good you get less points and if you win against a good opponent you gain more points. So the person with 4 wins out of 14 games may have won against tougher opponents then you have. I may be wrong but I believe this is how it works
its the YMCA of ranking systems... "everyones a winner"

but yes, a dev explanation would be awesome

As it should be.
Yep, pretty much a time played leaderboard. Which isn't a bad thing.
I got 10000 points for beating the supercross number 1 and he got 2 points for that loss. So yes definitely a true skill idea going on. Pretty sure you get more points for losing to higher ranked players apposed to lower ranks as well.
You guys dont think it's unreasonable that a 4/14 player is ahead of a 7/7 player? I bet there are even stranger examples than that around, I just took that cause I saw it and it seemed completely bizarre.
It should never be a quantity > quality leaderboard, it's gonna become ludicrous. The best player should be #1, not a nolifing sucker who barely wins half his games.
Multiplayer leaderboards mean nothing, they do not accurately represent a players skill.
I'm an above average player, ranked low 300's, and I had so many losses on my multiplayer record before it was wiped because I raced using the donkey quite frequently for fun, therefore my rank did not accurately depict my actual skill level.
If I were you I wouldn't pay too much attentiion to the mp leaderboards and just use mp as an enjoyable and fun experience outside of single player.
i think they should just scrap the multiplayer leaderboards, they are pointless. they dont represent anything.
the stats page gives an accurate win/game count and mine is 234/241 - 7 losses, which is correct.
yet since the update it says ive played about 80 games of Trials and im at 49/59 - 10 losses, which should be about 3.
ive played 2 games of hardcore and im not even on that leaderboard.
then you have people on less games played, worse win/ratio and a lot more points. its ridiculous.
so ridiculous that theres a cheating clown at the top of the leaderboard, who quits any game they cant win and sends out hate mail to more skilled players when that happens.
the leaderboards seem to hand out more losses than youve had whilst also forgetting about some of your wins, they give more points to people with less time played, less wins AND less games... theres just no reason to pay attention to them and its a shame because if they worked properly, they would have been a lot of fun to put effort into.
I would make the ranking visible in the mp lobby... And after the game you see how many ranks you have won/lost. Would lead to a better grade of understanding . Also I would scrap the win/loss statistics and make them viewable for the player only. Since they do not represent any value, people get confused by them and think the leaderboards are bugged.
I don't claim to understand the system, but it does make sense (though it's rather unfortunate) that the W/L ratio doesn't have much to do with the rank. You can only gain points, not lose them, so a person with 4/14 has the accumulated points of 14 games, even though they didn't get the maximum points for each game, while a player with 7/7 did get the most out of the game, but is still only working with 7 games. Obviously each game has a different point value, and that's where I get lost.
I would prefer if they didn't show the ratio, since it's not really relevant and is confusing, but then again it doesn't make the races any more or less enjoyable for me.
