You know how you get annoyed when you're playing somebody's track and you're waiting for the elevator? Guess what? That's how people feel when they are waiting for the ones you put in your track.
That is all.
Generally, anything that makes you have to wait, sucks.

It's settled! My next track will have 10 elevators. And in between them will be physics objects that slowly fall out of your way.And lots of physics-enabled nearly-vertical chain. Best. Obstacle. EVAR!!
Oh, and plenty of random bumps right before abrupt turns that slam you into a box.

That being said, there are correct ways of making elevators interact with the rider. For us who take our track building seriously and appreciate honest feedback, I was both glad to hear but disappointed to receive negative feedback regarding my elevator. My next track has an elevator but it is used more fluent with 0 wait time - actually requires high speed from the rider (and getting the 4 or 5 ramps and landing perfect) to work properly. For most people, the elevator will be fast and smooth, for the select elite, it will be a vital tool to get platinum.
