Re: Deftonian86's custom scenics - Under the moonlight
Hey man, thought I would give you some feedback on your track.
Overall, it was alright. To be honest, there wasn't anything where I said "wow, this is fun" or "wow, this is cool". There are a few things I would recommend for future tracks:
1. Do not ever change camera angles just for cool effects, especially in the middle of a technical obstacle. It just makes the object 10 times more annoying and way more difficult than it should be. There are certain times when it is ok to change the camera angle, but the places you did in your track (at least in the beginning) were not those certain times.
2. The theme is...decent, I guess. It's cool and all, rock mountains in the clouds. But that's it. It's literally just hundreds and hundreds of rocks. And then some more rocks in the background. There's just no detail really unless more rocks are considered more detail. Try and go with a theme that allows you to go with more variety next time.
3. Using obstacles like rocks just increases the chances of a track being annoying. I say this because the entire track is just full of bumps. It's full of tiny little clips that are completely unpredictable that throw your rider off from where you expect him to be. Beyond this, over 70% of the time I had no idea what I was about to hit next. Not because I couldn't see it, but because you just couldn't tell what was part of the driveline and what wasn't part of the driveline. It somewhat felt like you built the entire level, then just placed the track down over it. There's just a lot of awkwardness in it. I shouldn't have to play your track 20 times just to figure out what I'm actually going to hit when I run into the next pile of rocks.
However, I don't want you to get discouraged. It really isn't a bad track, it's just average. And making an average track on your first try is certainly impressive.
I would recommend going with a similar difficulty for your next track, but try and make it smaller. Pick a different theme and just try and make more technical obstacles. Place some random stuff together and see if it's fun to go over it as an obstacle. It seems like almost all of the obstacles in your current track were either a pile of rocks or a line of smooth rocks. Try for some more variety. Obviously you can make whatever you want, but that's just my suggestion.
Keep going and I'm sure you can make some really good stuff in the future.
