That's very true. Often it can be hard to determine a post's true intent accurately without somewhat knowing the poster's usual intentions when they post. Similarly, it can also be tough to consistently show your intent in all of your posts.Originally Posted by bobozilla

I'm also guilty of paying a little bit less attention to some peoples' ideas just because their signatures have something that I might disagree with. I consciously try to avoid forming biases against these people, but I have slipped in the past. Now I just read posts, and avoid reading signatures until I've been in the thread for a while. I'm happy to say that I put these problems in the past, and rarely find myself thinking that way anymore.
I think for like a year I thought jook13 was some Australian dude. He would sprinkle "mate" around, and then I started doing that when I talked to him, and then I realized he was American and possibly even thought I was Australian because I was always saying "mate". Forums are confusing!!! I try not to think too deeply about it since you'll always be guessing until you meet someone anyway, but I guess when I post I try to imagine being in the same physical room as people so I don't get too corrupted by anonymity. Unlike killpo I am relatively new to internet forums, so I'm still trying to learn how they work.
Interesting threadThe more I think about it, I'm beginning to realise that I am much more likely to be arrogant/dismissive/nasty to somebody with atrocious spelling or grammar. I form negative bias very easily against people who put no effort into their posts. The way I see it is, if you're not going to take the time to ensure what you're writing is legible and grammatically sound then it's probably not worth my time reading. People who use text-speak on forums really pi*s in my teapot too, if I see someone use, '2' instead of 'to' I will automatically begin to disagree with them on as many points as I can.
Also "lol" has been redundant since 2003, to me it just screams air headed bimbo![]()

@killipo what does the O in your sig stand for? killipO
It doubles as that, yes. But it's actually primarily the symbol for an American College Football team, The Oregon Ducks.Originally Posted by cowtronThey're a fantastic team, and the reason I say that the NCAA is way more fun to watch than the NFL.
I know that most people don't know who they are, though. So I let it kind of represent the O in my name too.![]()
And to make matters confusing, the 'O' didn't have a real meaning in the first place. But we'll just ignore that fact, and stick with what I said up above.![]()
Boring story about my username: My username/Gamertag actually came along because my name is Phillip, and when I was younger I'd sign PC game scoreboards as "Phillip of Course" since I would dominate the board. Then one scoreboard had a character limit; "Phillipo" is all that fit. I started using that as my name on everything. Then for whatever reason I modified that for my gamertag back when Halo 2 was all I ever played (hence the "Kill" part.) And then the rest is history.
Ohh the O stands for Of course. So the whole thing is killip of course, which is actually kind of ironic since that's not really obvious at allOh but Oregon works too
Haha, just try not to overthink it.Originally Posted by cowtron![]()

I do the exact same thing.Originally Posted by Killipo
