Am I the only one who experienced some intense lag throughout the whole track? Its a bummer cause I really liked it (most of it...) otherwise.
Besides the lag thing, there were a few obstacles where you get some speed then catch the front tire, one of them you cant really see coming due to obstructing foreground objects. As also said, its a bit long for my taste. My sweet spot for track length is 30-45 seconds for a flawless run. Thats more of a personal thing though, so cant knock you for that.
Nice details, fun line. Perhaps focus more on optimization for your next track though, when seriously going for a good time on a track, any amount of lag can completely kill it.
Thanks for the feedback, jook. I assume you're talking about the screen tearing when you mention lag. I didn't notice any parts where you actually slow down (except for right near the end). The screen tearing is the result of having a ton of stuff on screen at once in addition to the far camera angle. I did what I could to reduce it by setting all objects not on the driving line to decoration only but in the end, the only way to completely get rid of it would be to start deleting stuff which I really didn't want to do.
I honestly didn't think the tearing was a huge issue because it doesn't seem that bad to me. I personally prefer longer tracks but I've noticed the sweet spot for most players is around a minute or a little less for a faultless run.
New extreme track, "Escher" has just been uploaded for your riding pleasure.
I'm not sure what to think about this track. I 0 faulted it, but by the time I did I was furious at this track and wanted to murder you.
Looking at it objectively, there are 3 problems:
1. Repetitive obstacles. There are 6 "bunny hop on an upward slope" obstacles in your track. That is way too many of one obstacle.
2. The downward part was just stupid. Not hard at all, you just have to inch your way down it. No way to speedrun it as far as I can tell, which makes it a pointless obstacle.
3. There was one obstacle where you start off on a downward-sloping slab and then have to jump over 3 boxes of dynamite onto an upward sloping slab. At the bottom of the upward slab was a rock that really, REALLY likes to grab your back tire and screw you over. Very annoying. This happened to me like 5 times.
First off, thanks for your opinion! Secondly, please don't murder me lol.
Your comments really do help me with my extreme track building. I may lay off them for a while because it seems like my best work comes from medium/ hard tracks. Still, I see where you're coming from. The downward slope I thought was unique and was meant to make impatient riders fault. It's also not an obstacle I see very often in other tracks so I figured "why not?"
Keep in mind that this is only my 2nd extreme track so I definitely have room to improve. If I make a 3rd one, I'll try to come up with obstacles that have a bit more variety.
I would say that its an improvement on your last track by some distance, but also agree with the things Buttcheek said. So a lot of positives imo when its compared to your first extreme, and not that far away from getting to be pretty good. Also, I did really like the theme you had going, I thought it worked really well. It looked good without being too busy or distracting which is what I like in an extreme track.
So definetely worth a play through, but a little bit repetitive.
That's exactly what I was going for with the look; something that was unique and interesting without being too distracting. I suppose more variety with the obstacles couldn't have hurt but overall I'm pretty happy with the outcome.Originally Posted by Barrybarfly
My next track is going to be a little something that for now I'll call "Tornado! 3!"... it might be pretty good too![]()
I just played Escher, and after a little work, 0 faulted it. It was a really fun map to play, but I agree with the statement about the slow drop section, as well as that rock that will grab the tire. Still, it has a great theme and great atmosphere. Good job!![]()
I'm quite happy with the atmosphere and glad to hear you were too. With every new track I make, I learn so much so I'm sure my next extreme track will be right on the money.Originally Posted by InstantNews
