I was making a scoreboard for my distance based skill game that will show your distance once you crash.
It was all fine and dandy until I realized something: IT WAS A DISTANCE SCOREBOARD, WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS A TIME SCOREBOARD!!!
Soon my world came crashing down as I realized there are two units for distance in this game, and half the people who played my tracks were going to be using feet instead of meters!!! Now my scoreboard wouldn't work for half the people who played my track!
ARGH!
The worst part is that the max distance in meters is about 500, which is about 1600-1700 in feet, which means I needed another digit on my scoreboard!
I'm pretty sure this is impossible to fix, since distance operators only read in meters. So I guess those stinking feet users are out of luck.
Redlynx, get rid of the stupid feet! WE ONLY NEED METERS! Maybe it will convince those filthy Americans to switch over to the metric system.
My car gets 40 rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.
Why not just leave it entirely in metric? Individual unit settings won't override the track's leaderboards.
BTW, I'm American, and I work almost exclusively in metric units. I can't stand the imperial system either, especially pointless arbitrary conversions like Btu and Horsepower.
I'd choose kilograms over slugs any day.
I live in america and Trials is by default in metric. I doubt anyone changes that setting. Don't stress over it.
I'm also American![]()
I put an "m" at the end of the scoreboard so that way everyone knows its in meters.
And Bobo, do you really think everyone uses metric? I would bet the vast majority of Americans use imperial.
Yup, I live in america and I am just used to meters being used it trials. Dont sweat it!
I use feet because then it looks like I'm going 3 times the distance!
In Trials, yes. 95% of gamers use default settings. I bet most don't even realize you can change to feetOriginally Posted by buttcheekofdeth
I always thought the default was feet (maybe if your Xbox knows you live in America?) but if it is meters then you are probably right. At least I hope you are.Originally Posted by bobozilla
Also, here's another unrelated issue with the scoreboard.
The distance reads to 3 decimal places, but data sources will only allow me to make 2 decimal places due to the rounding. For example, for the third decimal place I would need to do something like 0.02 - 0.0154 = 0.0054, which I would then multiply by 1000 to give 5.4, which I would then floor to 5. However, the data source shows 0.02 - 0.02 = 0. I assumed it rounded but still held the actual number of 0.0054. But then when I multiplied by 1000 it still showed 0 instead of 5.4. Weird.
I'm American. In life I'm used to imperial measurement.
In trials, it's always been metric and I never wanted to change it.![]()
