I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) [Review thread]

    UPDATED FOR NEW TRACK

In a slight variation on the usual "Track Review" threads we have, I thought I'd try a new approach.

I too will play and review your track or skill game, provide a rating and issue feedback, but there's a twist

First of all, you must play and review my track - "Sewer Rat" <-This track may change as I release more, and post your review here.

I promise to be objective, and if you think my track is a pile of crap then feel free to tell me without worrying that I'll hate your track too. But please offer constructive criticism and tell me what could be improved, and I'll try and do the same.

So, in true school yard fashion, you peek at mine and I'll peek at yours!

    Who's first?

    I'll give it a go-

I like the concept of Druids' Revenge, and you had some good jumps across the pillars. I was glad to see it was rated extreme after having so much trouble, but I still felt like some of the jumps where difficult mostly because it was hard to get traction with the sharp edges and bumpy surfaces of the rocks. Watching the top replay it's clear even that person (poso ocha2) had trouble with a lot of the jumps, often landing with the middle of the bike first.
The atmosphere was interesting, it did feel like another location; Unfortunately the scenery was pretty sparse. It just needed more variety, maybe some grass on the ground especially around where the pillars meet the ground.
Overall there's certainly potential here. looking forward to more tracks.

I have a skill game called "Hurdles" out right now, check that out. If anybody else wants to send some feedback my way I'll be happy to return the favor.

Thanks Doxt, I appreciate the feedback. There was initially grass already on the ground, however the game couldn't keep up and it caused flashing and pop up etc.. so it had to go. I'm glad you seemed to like it overall.

I played "Hurdles" as promised, and I thought it was a fun little game. I like the concept, and the little "poing" noise the hurdles make when you hit them. I thought the track layout was well thought out, and the hurdles were placed in nice positions which made it tricky but not impossible. I managed to get gold, and I can see myself coming back to improve on my score.

As for criticism, I was always aware of how barren the background was. I thought perhaps a stadium setting would have been appropriate for that kind of track and added some atmosphere. As a minor point, it was quite obvious you were using skis as the hurdles, and I thought maybe there was some other object you could use like a plank or pipe that might look more appropriate, but that's me being picky now.

Overall good stuff, I'll be playing this again later. 4 stars

Okay track. I would give it 3 stars.

Those round bumpy rocks really, really killed the track for me. It's hard to get a smooth jump off of them which makes any of the obstacles you used them in partially based on luck. Most of the obstacles that used only square rocks were good.

The track was also pretty long, which is generally a bad idea for an extreme track.

The combination of longness and unsmooth rocks makes your track a pain to speedrun. I tried a few times but only got down to 10 faults I think.

I'm also not a fan of the evil laughter, but I won't hold that against you.

Thanks for the feedback, sorry you didn't like it much.

I've just run through Missile Crisis, and for the most part I really enjoyed it.

I liked the rushed feeling I got from the alarm but I felt this could have been used to more effect, like have the alarm get louder as the track progresses or have more alarms go off to give it a sense of urgency.

I also enjoyed the part where the door is closing and you need to get through, and it's a shame it was only used the once. You could have had a whole sequence of alarms and doors closing causing a panic for the exit which would have been fun trying to get over the obstacles in time.

I thought the difficulty was spot on and the track flowed really well and had great obstacles, and the ending sequence was fun to watch. There was a bit of track at the end where the bike just rides along for a bit with no obstacles or anything which made it a bit bare, but it didn't really matter that much.

I gave it 4 stars, and I'll be sure to come back to improve my time.

I already had One Way Ticket on my track list, I gave that 5 stars a while ago I have yet to play Bogged Down but I will when I get the chance.

Thanks! I'll just say two things:

    1. I didn't want the door to actually interfere with the track, I felt that that would be annoying. That is why it is so easy to get through it in time, it's just there for visual effect.

    2. Honestly I did get lazy at the end which is why there aren't any significant obstacles

Thanks for the feedback. The grass flashing thing- it wasn't the thick grass disco lights bug? I had that in a swamp track I was making.

I'm glad you liked the noise of hitting the hurdles, my friend thought it was annoying

As for the barren background, I totally agree. It was the last thing I did after getting the track all set. It's the same problem I'm having now. I have this new track I just finished and the line is super solid, but I haven't even started on the scenery. Gonna have to take my time on this one, I'm looking for 5 stars!

The skis are totally obvious but I grew to like them too much they where handy because they lie flat but I suppose planks would've worked.

Hey man, tried your track out. First I'd like to say good job with visuals. The setting was nice, and I loved the fact that all the checkpoints started to burn when you passed them. I liked the fog and the lighting also. The main thing I did not like was the uneven stone obstacles. It's been said before, but I'll say it again, it's almost impossible to get a consistent jump off some of those rocks. The majority of my faults came on the steep section near the end, though that part was fine. A little tough to get square to be able to take that incline, but with more practice I'm sure I'd be able to nail it pretty quick. Overall, I gave you a 3, would have been higher had those rock jumps not been so frustrating. If you end up remaking this track, and you make those jumps smoother to hit, it will make your track much more playable and not take out much of the difficulty.

I played your other track also, Stonehenge1. I liked it a little more. It seemed like all the rocks were a bit easier to manage, and the lighting made it easier to see what was going on. I liked the lighting on Druid's Revenge, but it was easier to see on this track for sure.

Anyway, I have a couple tracks you could try out.

Flying High is my newest one, and my first shot at a track with multiple routes, so I'd like like to know what some people thought of this one.
In my sig there is a link to where I have the names of my other tracks posted, you can check there, or just search my name on TC, but I warn you, some of my first tracks are just awful.

Hey thanks for the review, and at last someone noticed my checkpoints!

I don't think I'll be doing a remake, as Druids Revenge is a remake of Stonehenge. Almost breaks my heart that you prefer the first track! I guess I screwed around with it too much, but hey - lesson learned.

    Anyway, I played Flying High and;

Likes: I enjoyed the first half of the track with all the different obstacles, I did quite like the monster truck in the background even though it was straight out of the examples section of the editor. There is one issue with it though, that if you fault just after the first checkpoint the truck disappears! It would have looked better if you had unchecked the "Restart after checkpoint" option and had the truck stay where it was.

I also liked the ending with the missile, even though it was a bit random.

Dislikes: There appears to be only one multiple route section, is that right? It just makes it not really multiple, just kind of two routes, and it's only one little platform. I think I was expecting more options really.

Also, I wasn't too keen on the second half of the map with all the jumps, just a bit boring. Using cars as something to jump over has been a bit overused by the community as a whole, and to some extent by RL in the single player, so you arn't the only one.

Overall the track had a nice flow to it, but if I'm honest it wasn't original or creative enough to keep me coming back for more, so it's a fair 3 stars.

I hope you found that helpful and not too moany, if you want me to try out one of your other tracks let me know.

Re: I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) [Review threa

    Thanks for the feedback man!
I'm finding it have to be real original. I'm no artist, so putting together random objects and making them look like something else is tough. As for the monster truck at the beginning, I tried to get it not to reset, but I couldn't find the checkbox for it. Maybe since it was the example monster truck there was no box to check.
Anyway, thanks for taking time for a review, I appreciate it.
