a change to the rating system?
I dont think the stars a good enough on their own. and 1 - 5 is not a big enough differential between tracks. the truly great tracks just dont stand out. and as it stands stars can be given at the drop of a hat but in reality they dont necessarily represent the quality of the work. personaly i have rated a few tracks with say 4 stars but then they have been totaly shadowed by something else. for an example, i just played an angry bikers game with 10 levels. now its nice to have extra levels and its mostly put together nicely however, there are a few logic problems with event timings and some of the physics dont work 100% right BUT the game has great potential. i couldnt give 4 or 5 stars due to these issues but 2 or 3 just feels like im being mean. i think we should have a larger number of stars to choose from, say 10, so we can differentiate good tracks from great tracks because with the system as it is the great tracks can slip through. i also think we should have a mandatory comment section, which could be viewed via the track details section, by others or even the builder. these comments would be tied to the stars and be a way of ......... justifying, or defending our rating of said track. obv these comments would need to have a filter to ensure nothing offensive is put down but constructive comments or praise should be present. this way if a track has say a thousand ratings of 8 to 10 stars and all the comments are along the lines of "lovely design and well implemented physics", or a thousand ratings of 4 to 5 stars with comments such as "great idea with potential but some work needed on logic and obstical positioning" then players would have a much clearer idea of what the track is. also if builders were to review these comments, said praise or equelly said constructive critisism could be noted and if needed things could be addressed. when i finish my skill game and we were to have a system such as this, i would be quite happy if players were to bring issues to my attention (nicely ofcourse
) or, fingers crossed, to praise my efforts. as i believe would most track builders.
so, to sumarise, more stars are needed and a comments section to back up ratings.
disscuss.
