    Finalizing a global score spreadsheet

    Hi guys,

I've always enjoyed the challenge of figuring out scoring systems. Made a global score spreadsheet for myself for Trials 2, for instance. Never did play Trials HD, but now that I have Evo (and an XBox to play Evo on) it's fun to try and figure out the new Evo scoring system. I know some other guys here are in progress trying to figure it out too, but I haven't yet managed to get in contact with them. I hope they're not feeling like I'm stepping on their toes or anything.

Meanwhile, I think I've nailed down the scoring system - it's different that in HD. Every difficulty level has a different set of multipliers, tournaments have their own multipliers too, and each track has a unique hand chosen "100%" time for scaling points for times better than the platinum threshold. In HD, the 100% time was effectively 0 seconds: the time you would have to run to achieve the max score of 200,000. In Evo, the 100% time is typically about 45% of the platinum time, to achieve the maximum score of 360,000.

I have the majority of the difficulty level multipliers based on my own observations of global score changes, but I don't have data points for the majority of the tournaments (and probably won't for a long time - have to get to less than 6 faults to get a valid data point). And while I have a few of the tracks' 100% times, I also need to record the global score change of a platinum result on all the other tracks and tournaments to extract the remaining 100% times.

I will be continuing to hit up the tracks where I don't have data points myself, but I figured I would ask if anyone is interested in helping out with the project by recording their global score changes if they happen to be working on one of these remaining tracks. We could very quickly nail down all these values and have a working score spreadsheet in just a couple of days. At the moment using that 45% estimate of the 100% time for the unknowns, it's only a couple of hundred points away from having my score right - at this point it's just a matter of finalizing these last few 100% scores.
For instance, here's an example of the data needed to be recorded, from the last track I just worked on.

Let's say I don't know the 100% time at Titan Graveyard and need a recorded platinum run to find that data. First, record your existing track time and global score.
Then, after improving your time, record your new time and global score:

    track: Titan Graveyard
    before: 0 faults, 1:12.591, 16,065,283
    after: 0 faults, 1:09.114, 16,072,218

then I plug those numbers into a spreadsheet here and it tells me that the 100% time for this track is 40.0 seconds.

So, if you're willing to help out here (thanks!) and you're thinking about going for a platinum at any one of these tracks, please record your before and after times and scores, and post here.

I will update this first post as tracks get nailed down, so it's easy to see what tracks are remaining to process.

EDIT: We've got all the data now! thanks!

Re: Finalizing a global score spreadsheet

This is as good a place as any. No problem, GrantR, you're not stepping on my toes. You've gotten further than I have on figuring out the actual calculations, but I've got all the score changes for every run I've ever taken (quite a list). With you and me together, we should be able to figure it all out.

So, does this mean you have a preliminary score formula, just pending the "100% time" determination for each track? Care to share it?

I have platinum on all beginner, easy, and medium so far. Also a few hard, one expert, and a couple of tournaments. That should get us most of the way there.

So is the "100% time" only a factor for scores of platinum or better? Or does it factor into lower-medal times? If so, we don't necessarily need to get platinum on a track to calculate it.

Here are some sample scores for the first track, Ridge Tracer. Let me know if these give you what you need:

Ridge Tracer, first track I ran, these are successive runs:
    12 faults, 0:55.830 (bronze) Score: 59,418
    4 faults, 0:38.197 Score: 60,015
    0 faults, 0:46.253 (silver) Score: 168,7385
    0 faults, 0:33.047 (gold) Score: 240,694

I came back several times later and increased my score:
    0 faults, 0:27.793 Score increase: 10,491,310 to 10,533,530
    0 faults, 0:27.256 Score increase: 16,897,438 to 16,901,753
    0 faults, 0:26.495 (platinum) Score increase: 18,581,052 to 18,586,934

Does this help? Do you need this much detail? Or just the very last gold-to-platinum score jump?

Re: Finalizing a global score spreadsheet

    Thanks for posting, MegaTrain

that's good data. My formula gives correct score for all of your entries, and your platinum time gives the 100% time of 15.0 seconds. thanks! That first track is a pain to get a plat time on. I couldn't better my pre-existing plat there. I've re-platted all the other beginner tracks today, so they're nailed down now.

For the first list of all tracks in my first post I just need plat times and score changes. The tournaments I also need some 1-6 fault score changes too.

If you want to post data for any tracks on the list, that would be great!

I can share the math. It'll take a bit to write it up, I'll save that for a seperate post. I'll send you my whole spreadsheet too when I'm 100% sure of the math and clean it up a bit.

Cool. I'm doing data entry on all my scores at the moment, I'll paste in the scores on all the platinum runs when I get it done!
