A little tip for the physics bubble

Here's something I worked out last night that eliminated the lag in my new track Absinthe.

Because I had an interesting physics event that I wanted to see on approach, I had enlarged the physics bubble up from the default 20m to about 32m. It looked great, but having such a large bubble was unnecessary for the rest of the track, and was contributing to lag in some areas.

Since the bubble size can be set by way of a datasource, I realized I could set it up to dynamically change the physics bubble size as needed. Using an addition operator, a set value event, and a pair of triggers, I got things set up to work perfectly. When the first target is hit, it adds 12 to the bubble size -- the second sets it back. Now the bubble bumps up to 32m for just a few moments in the track, just enough to get the event to happen in the distance. Bingo -- track lag is gone!

I did this as well. Now I'm wondering if I should make it based on the speed of the rider, because my track grinds when the rider is going slowly, but those same parts work great when you're blasting through them.

I'm trying to do this but failing, especially with linking the physics bubble icon (not sure what should be pointing to it).
    could anybody explain it?

I'm not on the Xbox at the moment, but I think what you will need to do is to click on the physics box, scroll down to the size option and press "Y", then select your data source. Then you can use whatever event you like to change it up or down using a set value trigger.

    Hope that helps

    JaminBen007 has it exactly right.

You should be aware that at the moment the bubble is increased, there is a possibility of a frame or two of lag if you are not careful. Just make sure you test it thoroughly.

Re: A little tip for the physics bubble

Used this tip in a track I'm currently working on, I had an explosion going off and sending parts flying everywhere, but because of the physics bubble as they flew off into the distance they would freeze in mid air, this trick means the explosion looks great and I can make sure I don't get lag.

Thanks. You learn something new everyday
