    Strange Icon Glitch?

    I can't work out if I've stumbled upon a glitch or just done something really stupid!
    Appologies for a long winded post, but In order to save the inevitable 'give us more detail' replies, I'll try to include as much as I can straight away!!

    When I reach a certain point in my latest track whilst test riding, 4 of the editors logic icons suddenly appear! I have the icons disabled in test ride, but have tried switching them on and off to see if it clears the bug, but it hasn't. Without fail, the 4 icons appear at the same point.
    I have tried playing the track with some other people in a multiplayer game and they said the same 4 icons appeared for them as well. The area where they appear has about 30 different logic icons, only 4 of them pop up, not all of them. (Obviously when I enable icons in test ride, they all appear but 4 still pop up when the icons shouldn't be seen)

    Here's a bit more detail of what I was trying to achieve, how I went about it and when the problem first appeared!

    I've created a 'catherine wheel' type effect (of the firework variety, not medieval torture device!!) using 4 'fire - rocket' effects which are glued together and have a single-pivot physics hinge connected to a dummy object. I have the angular motor enabled so that the flames spin in a circle like a catherine wheel firework. That all works fine, no problem!
    I have this effect next to a loop which closes around the rider when he enters (using visibility events to make the loop surround the rider), the rider is now 'trapped' inside the loop until he completes a set number of loops.
    I have set up a counting system using a 'set value' event to increase a variable data source by 1 with each loop, then using a general filter to compare the number of loops completed with a set data value (the point at which the loop re-opens, freeing the rider by hiding some of the loop again).
    The flames are turned on when the rider has completed 2 loops as a hint that the player is meant to be doing loops. This all works fine, no problem yet!

    The problem appeared at this next stage. I took the counter that I'd made and added a few more general filters. This time, instead of triggering a visibility event which freed the rider, they triggered a variation event which changed the variation of the rocket flame event! So with every loop the rider completes, the flames grow until he is freed at which point the flames are then turned off again! The growth in flames was an attempt to signal, once again, that the player was doing the right thing by completing loops.

    The point at which the icons mysteriously appear in test ride and multiplayer games is when the flames change to variation 2.
    I haven't submitted the track yet as I obviously want to sort this out first!

    I tried getting rid of variation 2 completely, but it still seemed to make the icons appear at that point.
    I didn't think there was any way that you could make icons visible in general play!? Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of the icons but keep the effect?!

    I hope I've provided enough detail for someone to spot where I've gone wrong or if it is a glitch! I know a few people have reported strange issues with rocket fire effect variation 2 before causing crashes, but the problem is still there when I switch straight to a different variation other than 2!

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Huh... crazy!

    Sorry, daft question, but I think I missed which icons specifically were being shown? Is it the rocket ones? That sucks, coz if it were just, like, a Variation Event or something, I could have suggest you just move it to behind the camera so it's not possible to see it...

    Unfortunately, I can't say for certain what might be causing your bug. There's no way you can hook up a Visibility Event to other Event icons is there, causing them to show? No, that makes no sense...

    Oh well, I hope you get it sorted buddy! Sorry I'm not much help I've had crashes when handling Water Particle Effects before, if that's any sorta consolation... I've had nothing like what you've described though!

    Ahh yeah, sorry, completely forgot to mention that, yeah it was the rocket icons!
    It makes absolutely no sense to me! I've been trying to think of a reason why you'd ever need to have an icon show in the final submitted track but that's so daft, it's surely got to be a glitch?!!?
    Weird!

    Unless anybody can think of anything to easily rectify it, I'll probably try to replicate the problem in a new map, see if it's a proper bug or just a one off gremlin! If I can't sort it, I'll probably just use a standard firework event!! Come to think of it, that would've been so much easier!!! (But nowhere near as cool!)

    Cheers for the +1 to the 'huh?' in my head!! I don't feel quite so stupid any more!!

    Must be a glitch. There is absolutely no reason that an icon should appear in the middle of a track.

    Hopefully Redlynx sees this.

    Have you tried to see if it happens with other effects?
    Also, my console freezes if i try to change the variation of the rocket fire from 1 to 2 with a variation event.
    I suggest to you to make the variation 2 invisible and make it change to visible with an event while keeping the variation 1 fire visible and have the two fires placed in the same spot so you can have still the growth effect on the flames

    Yeah, it seems to be a bit of a weird one rocket variation 2! I haven't so far heard of anyone else with icons in game play! Very frustrating!

    I did try completely removing the variation 2, therefore going straight from v1 to v3 and the glitch still happened. I think it must've got stuck in that track somehow which sucks, I was looking forward to submitting that one!!

    I'll have a bit more of a play around trying it with other effects, I did briefly try it with regular fire on a different track this evening but it just doesn't look the same (didn't have time to finish getting the variations sorted, just got to the point of entering a loop, closing, starting spinning fire!
    Hopefully I'll get a bit more time to do some more conclusive testing over the next few days!
