+ TURN BIKER INTO SOMETHING ELSE +

Subject: Iīve played a track where the Biker is driving on a Jet Ski and on another track someone created a Star Wars like orbital glider.

Edit: Even in the main game you can find a stage where the character is driving on skis.

How can I modify my bike?

    Please note:

    - The costum bike should still have itīs normal controls. Itīs just about the visuals, not about the controls.

    Thank you.

You can select the bike (or rider), open the menu and make it invisible.

you also need to glue any items to the invisible bike either with physics joints or glue (not sure if glueing them works as well) you can load the ski slope track in example tracks under the pause menu in the editor.

Can anybody help me with this? I have tried using the 'glue' and also the 'physics event' but have had no luck getting anything to stick to the bike.

Does anybody know if there is a tutorial anywhere about this? Ive searched youtube but cant find anything covering this.

    Cheers, Dave

Ps. First post and hopefully, the first of many. Everybody here seems really helpful and genuine.

You can't glue anything to the bike itself. Anything you want to attach has to use a physics joint. I recommend attaching to the main body of the bike for stability, but you can attach to any main piece of the bike that you desire. You will probably want the object attached to have a fairly rigid connection, so the point to point setting on the joint with the preset on hard and joint strength at 50 is a good place to start. From there you could mess with adding rotation, springs, or sliders with the advanced joint settings.

Lastly, don't forget to turn physics on for the object you attach or else the object, and therefore the bike, won't move at all. I've spent a lot of time messing with stuff attached to the bike, so if that doesn't make sense let me know and I'll show some pictures.

Yea that makes sense. A few things youve said there I havent tried so I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes.

I've seen some cool bikes/snowmobiles/atvs on there and I need a piece of the action.

Also, have you seen the GIGAbike? How on Earth do you make that? Some people have some serious skills on the editor.

Re: + TURN BIKER INTO SOMETHING ELSE +

dont set hinge strength to0 high if you can help it the top settings are disproportionate to the scale of the slider and can confuse the issue (especially with damping).

you get a nice stiff joint to the bike by using a rotational joint set to 0 rotation (as in it cant turn)

you can do anything you can think of i made a horse to ride and a giant chromeball man that rides the normal bike, but the best one (and funniest) is the komodo jockey, the lizard cracks me up every time he gets to really dash for the finish lol check it out on my link below.

if its just for what the bike looks like, could a simple ope be used with x,y and z connected to the bike. that way the items you attach will follow you. granted they are doing just that, following you and are not actualy attached to the bike.

yeah but you can always attach physics joints to them there objects, or dummies.

edit: also a simple glue bike part to object works nice, as you dont need to OPE it, its free.
