I personally have nothing against FPS games, but I agree. Especially since so many of them suffer from sameness.

But they're all socially-driven games. Your friends are playing it, play with them. Your friends move on to the next in the series (despite it only being slightly different from the last one), will you be left behind? No, you move up in the series. You try to quit, and now you're the lame "noob" that abandoned your friends. It's an endless cycle.

I know several people that moved on from Halo to play Call of Duty, and left me behind. And now I don't play anything online but Trials. Are they happy? They seem pretty stressed over their ranks and killstreaks sometimes. Am I happy? Hell yes.

so what if a lot of people play them? some people like to play Trials, so they do. some people like cod, so they play that.
i like to play both... who cares.

Call of Duty always tops the list because its the most popular franchise out there and, whether youre a fan or not, its up there because it deserves to be, not because everyone who plays it is an idiot.

I don't completely understand it either. I think it stems from the overwhelming popularity of the CoD franchise, and how many of its players have given FPS gamers a bad stereotype of being loud, obnoxious people that hate on every other genre (especially RPGs, reportedly.) I know it's true in a lot of cases, but it doesn't describe the entire FPS community.

It's also known to be the go-to genre for squeaky-voiced 12 and 13-year-olds who use offensive slang terms describing homosexuality. That really does get old quickly, but why are non-FPS gamers complaining about it more than the people that actually put up with them all the time?


Edit: And I hope you didn't get that idea from my other post. I really do want to get back into FPS gaming. I miss it. I don't usually buy games full-price, though. Only discounted and arcade titles. So it's hard for me to buy into what's hot online at the time, because by the time it's in my price range it's generally not being played anymore. Which also happens to be true about the older FPS games I did buy when they were new.

I used to be ALL about FPS played Halo day and night, then Halo Reach ruined the franchise for me, so I switched to CoD it got old after they kept releasing the same game year after year with slight tweaks. I stopped playing Xbox after that, then Trials came to save me from a life of boredom. I even went and sold all my games to GameStop cause I never touched them anymore. Anyway, go Evo! As big as mass effect is its awesome Trials beat it!!

i love how the list is all full of those blockbuster full-priced massive-franchise retail games and Trials is in there, almost halfway up

Id like to See it higher than that but still a good sign. I Hope in the long run it will top HD in terms of totalplayers.
