Check out my first Trials track: Silent Hill (Updated, PICS)

    GT: KaliniuS
    Track name: Silent Hill (Final)
    Difficulty: Medium
    Date released: 05/08/12
Tags: Scenic, Realistic, Themed, Something Wild

Seeing as though this is my first track, I think I did a good job. I love the Silent Hill games (especially part 2) and this track pays homage to it. I tried as hard as I could to nail the pacing and atmosphere of the game. Could you guys be so kind as to give it a try and rate it/ tell me what you think?

No impressions? The track has been downloaded 258 times and only 25 people on the leaderboard. I know it's not THAT bad lol.

Okay, I completed this and got the #2 time, second only to you. It took a fair bit to get my no fault run and I'll tell you why, but first - the good.

First off, absolutely fantastic environmental. I'd give you *****/***** on the atmosphere. The best moment was the down-the-hallway transition. It was spooky and fit silent Hill's mood well - you hit all the major hallmarks of the franchise: it was recognizable and clearly you put time into it.

Unfortunately I have some flow issues with it. Eventually I found myself going through the track very slowly because I couldn't remember which lead-ups were into an awkward ramp, which required hitting the brakes, and which required a ton of speed. Even 5, 6, 7 playthroughs in there were a lot of exit ramps that strongly implied the correct action was to gun it only to find that that's not the right move. I watched your replay and you hit them faster and more consistently than I did, but some of them still aren't very clean even though they look like they should be.

The low-light of this track is muddling around taking faults in the pitch black environment. I know that this is atmosphere correct and all, but it's pretty miserable. Eventually I memorized the correct sequence of inputs to get through that section without faulting, but it was my least favorite part of the track.

Still, for all the problems I had with it, I'd call it a medium and not a hard. I was taking faults not because of hard executional difficulty, but because of awkwardness and my failure to remember the order of the obstacles.

So there's my feedback. Overall I loved the theme and atmosphere but I think you sacrificed a little bit too much playability to pull off the Silent Hill feel. Nonetheless I'd recommend this track to others in order to see really impressive details KaliniuS put into the track to make it feel like Silent Hill. Good effort.

Thanks so much for the feedback, Elipsis! I truly appreciate your honesty and I must say I agree with you 100%. The dark areas seem a bit unfair at times. The intent was to have the player drive slowly through it but it ends up being a little frustrating. The flow of the track is also not as consistent as I would have liked but at least I've learned a lot seeing as though it's my first track building experience.

I'm happy to hear that you've recognized the amount of work I put into making recognizable areas of the SH games. After you come out of the first dark metal area, next is supposed to be reminiscent of the first SH game where the creatures close in on you and "kill" you as part of the first sequence.

Hopefully others will play the track now and supply their own impressions.

PS. The track is listed as medium. I know it's not tough enough to be considered hard.
