Is it possible to turn off the fire on Afterburner?

Or in any other way get a boost like the afterburner but without the fire effect?

It should be possible to replicate the effect using other parts.

Attach a small invisible dummy object to your vehicle using a physics joint (or via a object position event), glue a directional force to the object and then create an event which enables the force for X ticks.
