The track I'm working on will eventually use a lot of objects for the decorations. So I've gone ahead and made the decorations I have so far and marked them as decoration only, but the total complexity doesn't seem to be affected at all.
What will turning everything not on the driving line to "decoration only" do?
Have wondered this myself as i had a track where complexity was reaching its limit so i went round turning loadsa background/foreground stuff to decoration only but it didnt seem to make much of a difference.
A tutorial on squeezing the most from the editor would be nice (things to check that may help tracks/games performance etc)
Making objects 'Decoration Only' can improve the frame rate in some cases as the game will then ignore these object's collision models.
Background objects with complex collision models, such as cliffs or rocks, should be set to Decoration Only if your frame rate is dropping when you play.
A ha! I may well do that anyway, even with a healthy frame rate - there are a lot of cliffs and rocks in my track!Originally Posted by katamariUK
Good to know!
If its not on the driveline/rider won't touch it, make it deco only. Saves space and lag!
Yeah, "decoration only" does not affect the total complexity but it improves frame rate.
I am having a problem with rendering in my track I have alot of cliffs and rocks all set to deco only and still gets laggy any helpful suggestions I have tried removing alot of stuff and got complex down to half or a little less, but still having lag issues any suggestions?
im having the same problem except my complexity is below a quarter full. All objects off the driving line are deco only, the track goes on for under a minute and the 2 view options are at a low value. I have seen tracks go on for over 2 minutes with plenty of objects for deco and no lag but mine lags slightly in 3 different places. Anyone able to help?
Complexity meter doesn't calculate game peformance issues like frame rate at all, it's based only memory consumption.
Number of active lights is the most common reason for the peformance issues. Fire effects does have pointslight attached so if you have lots of those you should disable light from the effects and add one pointlight to give "average light illusion". Also if you are having major glue groups, heavy physics structures in small areas or just if you have spammed too many objects.
Curved driving line + lots of objects can also kill performance. (Way of the ninja for example is "good" example)
I am using the suns light only, i have a couple of sound effects and 2 items with physics on. I have only glued one thing and i havent spammed objects but selectively placed some trees once i had finished making my track just to add to the woodland theme, in my whole level i have possibly 15 trees. My driving line has a slight curve. I have kept items on my driving line to a minimum especially to avoid lag.Originally Posted by sipe
