This. Back in the early HD days this place was cool. Now it's just a *****fest.Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ

I find it funny that someone from HD can turn up with an average track and have a bunch of people go into the thread saying how good it is to finally have some more good stuff to play, when they hardly play anything from someone they dont know. While some very good creators are releasing tracks and being ignored because they aren't known. Its that kind of elitism that is going to tear things apart imo, as it makes a lot of people feel ostracised, unwanted and unable to earn any kind of respect from the "veterans".
so what do you expect these 'veterans' to do about it? go through and play everyones tracks on the forum?
maybe thats not how they want to spend their time. maybe they play their friends tracks because... they are friends. and they dont play tracks from people they dont know.. because they dont know them, and therefore feel no obligation to check their work.
as i said, i can fully appreciate that people would like to see these highly regarded members give them feedback - but that is not their right; it is just a bonus.
You're mising my point. I accept they may not want to do it or have the time to do it. But they can't do that AND claim to have better tracks and deserve RL picks, as they arent aware of what standard other peoples tracks are.Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ
Imagine if I never played tracks by the well-known veteran creators and then claimed my tracks were better than theirs and deserved a RL pick? How quickly would that argument get picked apart? And yet that is the same basic argument that certain people use. They deserve a RL pick as their tracks are better. But how would they know if they are or not?
well clearly you two are thinking of at least one person in particular, so im not sure what ive missed but thats beside the point.
these people may indeed think that their tracks deserve a RL pick. but why would they have to play all the random tracks that get posted on a forum to assert that?
you have to assume a 'veteran' knows a good track when he sees one. and if he builds a track, and then plays a bunch of tracks from RL picks that are (in his opinion) of a lower standard, then that is all the information he needs to make that assertion.
if poorer tracks are already in RL picks, then they dont need to play everyone elses tracks to assume that they should have a RL pick.
im not saying this is polite or a good way to make friends around here... but you dont need to play every track on track central to get an idea of the quality of tracks in a relatively small, selective, subjective feed.
I'm not thinking of specific people at all. Just a perception that some people feel that way, the same way there is a perception that some people feel ostracised.Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ
As for feeling they deserve a RL pick, I still dont see how people can say the picks are a joke because they didnt get a pick. Its RL picks. They pick what they choose and its clearly not just based on quality, sometimes its just a unique idea, a fun track, something they enjoyed or whatever.
As for not being polite or a good way to make friends, I'm pretty certain I'll have made some enemies just by disagreeing with some of the opinions voiced up to now.
My biggest issue is with people feeling they are entitled to a pick. If you get one, great. If not, does it really matter? Unless that was the reason for creating the track, then it really shouldn't upset anyone imo. But thats just my point of view and I'm sure a lot of people wont agree with it.
One thing I think a lot of us could agree on is that RL picks should probably just be binned, to avoid anymore of these debates/arguments/drama. All it seems to have done is create issues within the community which I'm fairly certain wasnt the original intention of it.
i was being light-hearted when i mentioned scrapping it altogether... although it creates some disputes on here, im sure the casual majority appreciate the 'highlights' a lot more than we do - which is quite rightly, more important to RedLynx.
and arguing about perceptions of hypothetical people's differing opinions is probably as ridiculous as it sounds, so im done.
edit: wouldnt have said anything if i knew emcee would remove me from his friends list, jesus
I've missed alot today jeez. I definetly don't wanna argue with anyone. All I have to say is almost everyone in this discussion has made some valid points. I'd like to bring back up iron warlords idea.
They should add a community picks feed. 100% behind this. Make a thread, let everyone vote each week, top 3 or 5 voted tracks win. It would be simple, and it would not take anything away from how special it is to get a rl pick. It's still red lynx picking your track, it would still be a big honor. Same as a rookie builder would be honored to have the forum users and vets vote in a track. Just seems to me like it would help alot. We would have more tracks on tc that are picked by the devs, more good tracks picked by the community of serious players, more good tracks period. How would that be bad? Also this eliminates people's concerns with 1 vote vs. 10 votes. In this case if enough people like it it wins, if not it don't, there's always gonna be complaints no matter what they do. But it seems like many have said, long time players are leaving and its not that rl don't care but as a business how could they not care more about the masses? Seems to me like an idea like this could help kill multiple birds with one stone.
