Happy St Georges Day! The Great Escape Custom TrackReview

Hi There this is my first real attempt at a youtube trials evo video. I created a couple of practices but I babbled my way through. Would love any feedback. Sub if you want, but its ok - I understand too many content makers, too little time. If you want to read more about the perils I faced - I've written an accompanying article for an unofficial uk Trials fansite.

I have had the time of my life on this wonderful track created by TH3 AX3s. I am proud to be the first person to put up a faultless time on the Leaderboard for the great escape. After creating the video (below) for a review of the track – I have turned to the TrialsEvolution.co.uk site to finish off my story. The love and affection I have for this track runs a lot deeper, due to my unfortunate experiences I have had over the last couple of days with her.

    God Save McQueen

When I first saw the name in the search, I thought sweet!!! – I am a huge Steve McQueen fan; I was sold on the name alone. I immediately tried it out. After I was done, I knew that I was going to make a video about it. This was the first time that I had come across a track that was filled with explosions that were there to set the track tone and were not just put in for a practical test.

So after a quick blast on it, I came back eventually to start recording through my capture card. I started to fool around with her, did some tricks and “fail on purpose” moments – so I had some footage in contrast. 10 mins of that malarky and I was ready. Second attempt – I got about 2 checkpoints from the end. I got just before got to the “Pipes” checkpoint. So I thought – Yeah this will be a piece of cake.

    20 minutes past… no luck

    1 hr passed…. no luck…

2 hours past… and it dawned on me… that I just got really lucky. I never paid her the respect that she deserved and I was now paying for it. Finally after 3 hours, I got my first faultless run. I ‘saved’ the replay (or so I thought), I switched out my HDMI cable – bunged in my component cables for a capture. Got all set up… only to find that Trials lost my replay and replaced it with 3 random fails between the 1st and 2nd checkpoints…

    She still hasn’t forgiven me….

    Kettle on
    Cigarette Lit
    10 deep sighs.
Back on it. My skills were badly shaken. The first attempts had been really speedy, but with crash after crash, just in the first section alone, my speed had drastically been reduced. When I did get past the long deep ditch, I kept failing; deep into the track’s final act. I constantly overshot my mark to leave in a high risk position. Subsequently I cut my speed; giving me time to overthink things and fail even harder.

Finally she caved and gave me a second replay. This time I had already got my component cables in. I rushed to my computer. There was something wrong… I didn’t want the music (originally I intended to put the great escape theme to it, but with a hint of revving sounds in the background). So I pressed <start>to bring up the settings option, but for some reason the option wasn’t there. Before my mind caught up to the movements of my thumb, it was all over – I had accidentally pressed the green button. A short sharp squeal exited my mouth as I had lost 2 replays now… about 5 hours of my Saturday.

Without saying a word I went and took a shower, so no one could hear me cry. I started to rewrite my original review script in my mind, so it would read something like:

“On first glance the great escape plays like a bottle of red wine… sometimes you need to cork the throttle and allow the track to breath, but after several hours I now understand that she’s actually like a blind date with an Asian Transexual Dominatrix, who doesn’t speak a lick of english. At first you might like her teasing bumps and curves, until she shoves a large d*** into your face!”

However, I changed it because I am new to youtube, I have seen a lot of commentators use bad language and aggressive dialogue to get cheap laughs. I dont want that reputation. The more videos I upload, the more chance kids will watch it – they don’t need more of that kind of thing.

    Kettle on.
    Ciggerette lit.
    About 20 minutes of insults.
Back on it. It was at this time, I had finally learned the correct method of getting the peak start that I do on my final replay, this was a game changer for me. I started to really respect The Great Escape and TH3 AX3s for creating this. There’s just one spot where I feel comfortable, and that’s a long ramp with a medium dropoff – The sun beams at you and it still gives me goosebumps to get to that point – its epic. Everywhere else gives me a tense feeling that I could fall at any moment. This is what makes it a perfect race track – If you have friends that play private races, this is definitely one that you want on your roster.

When I was finally done with it all and I re-watched my first official custom track review, I felt really sad. My throat tightened up. I’m not going to be playing the track again for a while, not with the same intensity. I know it sounds crazy, but I spent 8-9 emotional hours on it. I went through denial, anger, hate, desperation and several other emotions that I never knew existed. I’ve had several flings with other girls since then, but it doesn’t feel right. (lmao). I know I need to move on, but I just need some time… maybe I’ll spend a few hours on COD so I can heal.

Anyway, if you do decide to download this wonderful track, and cherish it as much as I do, please share this article, or subscribe to my Youtube Channel – If you don’t do that, please Rate the track at least – I’d love to find this in the official race roster on Trials Live.
