This is a cross post from the General forum, but I think it fits better here. I've really been enjoying the game, but I've noticed that the "Highest rated" system for community tracks is completely broken.
It's currently ranking tracks based exclusively on their star rating. The problem with this system is that every single time I look at the Top Rated category, a brand new track with one or two 5 star ratings is in first place while really great tracks (with, say, an average rating of 4.8 after 5000 ratings) can't even make it on the list. This basically renders the entire category useless, because it would forever be a constantly shifting list of newly made tracks with one 5 star rating.
It's pretty easy to fix this, though. It's a great, math-y solution that would do a great job of actually finding the good tracks and making sure they're at the top. This article explains the math and shows the code. This Reddit blog post talks about exactly why this is a good solution.
I think this game can have a long, healthy life with all the great content people are coming up with. But I'm afraid a whole lot of it is going to be missed if the system stays how it is.
i heard from another website that people are making impossible tracks or ones with secret endings that only they know about so they can complete it and give it five stars (you have to complete the track before you can rate it, if you cant beat it you can rate it, therefore it stays 5 stars)
You can watch their replays to find out the secret endings. When you do, just act accordingly (give the track 1 stars, and it should disappear from the top 50 list for good).Originally Posted by FullMetalNeek
wow a reply from sebbbi, just read you were the man behind inferno 2, cool
never thought to watch the replays, thanks
Unfortunately, there will always be people that exploit the system - let's just get a decent "system", before worrying about exploits - at the moment it is pretty ropey.
it works fine, its probably like that for when it first came out and it would put in tracks with one rating so the list didnt look empty.
Now that they have a lot of custom created content they will probably put a filter in so you need at least... 25, 50? ratings before it would be able to compete in this list
Fix is now applied to the server.
Woooo thats awesome!Originally Posted by sebbbi![]()
