Exactly, a fast restart is critical, I don't mind the texture pop-in.

Yup, definitely just to slow loading times. I've never had it to the point where it didn't fix the textures before the track starts.

But just for the record, I'm playing on a Gears Xbox Slim with 247 gigs free.

I agree, I'd rather have the popups then a loading screen after every restart. I was just making sure my old xbox was not dying or something. I might try putting it on a usb stick and seeing if it loads any better. I'll post the results then. Thanks for the answers everybody.

I'm not sure what results you found with this, but I bought a USB stick recently a fairly cheap one and it seems to have improved my experience with the game to somewhat similar to my newer slim model.

The USB stick is a Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB. A fairly inexpensive one, with pretty bad write and fairly average read speeds.

Now, on my old Premium 20GB which is probably about 4-5 years old maybe the texture pop in is pretty bad, especially noticeable when loading up the lite or pro editor.

With Evo installed onto the USB stick I instantly noticed an improvement in load times and most importantly the texture pop in. I'd say it was probably about sub 1 second after loading the pro editor that everything that was meant to be there, was. Skipping through the various areas using RB/LB there was pretty much ZERO texture pop in.

Another more in-track example : If I get say 30-40 seconds into Gigatrack and press The Back button, pretty much half the ground textures are missing using my aged HDD until well after the countdown. With the USB, I would say literally it was like a 1/5th of a second and everything was back in view.

I haven't extensively tested out the same results on my 360 slim with 250GB HDD but I know from now on I will be playing Trials off the stick when I use my premium.

So I guess If you have a USB stick and the texture issues nag you, give it a whirl. It might help make the game even more enjoyable than it is.

    /End lesson

I'm on a fat 360, and I play everything off of my 16GB flash drive now. The only things I keep on the HDD are old games that I don't play anymore and backups of my Trials tracks.
The only time I ever notice any texture pop-in is for about a second right when I open up the editor.

Re: Textures are slow to load

i started playing on my old white fat xbox, and the texture pop-up is unbelievable. i will start a track or a replay, and it takes until the end of the track before everything is finally loaded. objects that are initially there look like nintendo 64 stuff, the rider is invisible for a long time, and the bike is basic shapes (2 circles and a seat) for atleast 30seconds.

its not a big deal as it finally loads after about 40-50seconds and it actually looks pretty damn funny. i haven't tried playing from a mem stick as it's not really a huge problem, i just thought i'd post about it. i wish i could record this as it makes tracks looks completely different, its kindof cool looking at them as basic nintendo 64 versions.

What flash drive are you using? I may invest in a better stick at some point, mainly for XBLA games.

Your HDD sounds in bad shape there buddy. I'd like to see a vid of your experience.

This one. It's really not that fast of a drive, but it's good enough for Trials.

Ta. Again a fairly inexpensive one. I wonder what causes this texture issue? Is it the speed of the ancient HDD whilst caching the doo-da's. It's a shame the Xbox has a maximum of a 16gb flash drive.
