An emo is someone who has a lower tolerance for sad emotions, and feels like they aren't good enough. This quote dissproves the emo thing keep on aiming for those goals I admire your determination Malachyte!

    - I think this is why I gradually lost interest in FPS and exploration/adventure based games after the Nintendo 64 era. Technology was allowing such games to just become more and more vast to the point that the thought of getting 100% of them was just tedious and daunting to me. I prefer the simplistic beauty of games like Trials and Super Meat Boy these days...

"I will even reenter the options menu after starting to confirm that the options have not somehow changed in the process."

    Thanks Complex.

Here's the funny thing about that. I've had some lower back issues that have come and gone since I was about 20. In June when I really decided to take a break from gaming and get outside whenever possible, they started to get worse. Why? I work at a computer for 40 hours a week, and the activities I enjoy are fairly demanding on the body - mountain biking, hiking, even throwing a powerful drive in disc golf can take it's toll on the back. It eventually got to the point that I decided to see a chiropractor, because my lower back would be stiff and in pain for hours after a day of doing outdoor activities.

It turns out I could handle going from a desk job to downhill mountain biking when I was younger, but it's just too much for my "old" 26-year-old body to handle. According to my chiropractor I need to stretch regularly and do some core and lower back strengthening exercises, which I've been doing. Anyway, when I first went to see him it was so bad that he recommended I stay away from biking, disc golf, hiking, etc. for at least a week and just focus on stretches and exercises to help my back relax and strengthen. I was pretty disappointed when he told me this, but two awesome things came of it:

I went back to playing Trials for most of my free time, and during this time I passed The Beyond NJ, and a handful of Level 1s. I'll be uploading this batch of replays within the next day or so, and now I'm actually very close to completing my Trials HD goals! I have precisely 20 more Level 1s to 0-fault, and that's it! So one more batch of replays and I'll be done!!!

The other awesome thing is this: After several days of not being "allowed" to go disc golfing so my back could heal, I got impatient and purchased a practice basket to set up in my yard to practice my putting. My chiropractor agreed that putting wouldn't slow down my healing process - I just had to stay away from really powerful long distance drives. For several days in a row I would hang out in the yard for an hour or two and just practice putting, even though it was certainly not as fun as playing a full game.

A few days ago I was given the "ok" to get back out there and start playing real games again. Before this whole ordeal my best score on any course was +3, and it's been a goal of mine to get par or better on a course for a long time. The FIRST GAME I played after not playing for over a week (besides putting practice) I got +2. I played another game later the same day and got -2!

Looks like all the putting practice paid off, and I would never have done it if I had still been able to get out and play full games, because just putting over and over again isn't as fun... but now I really see the impact it's had on my game, so I'm going to continue to practice.

Yay for the unexpected positive side-effects of having a weak lower back!

Geez, 26 and you have a bad back... wait until you hit your 30's!

Have you thought about a standing desk instead of sitting? I've contemplated trying it, but it's awful hard to get dual 24's elevated high enough to stand in front of.

    __________________________________________________ __________________

Finally, I typed up a longish description for my run on The Beyond NJ. As usual I'll copy and paste it here:
    _________________________________________

    The Process:

When TBNSoty first released this track, I timed out twice on the 2nd obstacle before asking him to split them up. I then passed all of the individual obstacles for my old video of this track - some of them I passed several times to get the cleanest possible runs. #2 and #4 I only passed once.

When I came back to the track recently to attempt a passing run, here's what happened:

On my "first try" I timed out on the 2nd obstacle again. I then practiced obstacles 2 through 10 individually, passing them each one time.

I tried the full track again, restarting MANY TIMES at the 3-minute-mark on the 2nd obstacle - I'm still terrible at this one. When I finally passed it, I timed out on the 6th one. I then practiced obstacles 6 through 10 individually, passing them each once.

Once again, tons of restarts from the 2nd obstacle at the 3-minute mark.

Timed out again on the 6th. Practiced 6-10 again.

Tons of restarts on the 2nd… made it to the last obstacle before timing out! :-O

Tons of restarts on the 2nd, made it to the 9th obstacle with only a few minutes left. Timed out on it.

Tons of restarts on the 2nd. Timed out on the 4th.

Tons of restarts on the 2nd. Passed the 4th one with less than 30 seconds left… passed the 5th one first try, timed out seconds after getting the checkpoint for the 6th.

More restarts on the 2nd. Made it to the 9th one again with very little time left, and timed out on it.

More restarts on the 2nd. Passed the track.
    _________________________________________

Here are some awesome things that happened on failed runs:

Screwed up the hook-flip on obstacle #2, missed the checkpoint for obstacle #3, landed perfectly in the half-pipe-thingy, kept up my speed, passed the obstacle!

I also had a run where I successfully got the checkpoint for obstacle 3, and still passed it on my first try.

I passed the 5th obstacle several times on my first try. I always considered skipping the checkpoint for it since it's challenging to get… but I was scared of having to do the first part of obstacle #4 again because I'm really bad at it.

Finally, I passed the 7th obstacle first try on the run where I timed out on the last obstacle. Total fluke, could never do it again…
    Platinum / 0 faults on ALL Level 1 Ninja Tracks - 283/318 ? 298/318

    Pass all three Level 5 Ninja Tracks - 2/3 ? 3/3

Haha, I have dual 23's... so I'm in a very similar situation.

I have not treated my back very kindly in my youth... doing 10-foot drops to flat on my bike, and 5-6 foot drops to flat on my unicycle. Of course when I was 17-20 I wasn't thinking of the potential consequences down the line...

Your run on The Beyond the NJ is amazing. Are you going to go for platinum/ 0 faults.

No one will ever 0-fault a Level 5... but I'm pretty sure I could get Platinum on The Beyond NJ with a little more practice, as I only missed it by 1.593 seconds. The requirements are 250 faults in 16:30.000. I got 108 faults in 16:31.593...

The thing is, now that I already have a 108 fault run, I'd have to get less faults than that in less than 16:30.000 for my new run to override my current one and get Platinum. The bottom line is I really don't care... I just wanted to pass the track - I would have been happy with Bronze. It was a total coincidence that I got so close to Platinum.

How many Level 4-5 have you gotten above bronze on?
