Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!

I also uploaded a failed 0-fault attempt on The Midnight Club which was much faster and smoother than my 0-fault run... up to where I faulted of course.

I have some Ninja replays recorded too. Just gotta get around to editing and uploading them.

Congrats! And why is it always the stupid faults that get us? It can't be a gloriously in-flames and flying-through-the-air type of fault, just a stupid tip onto your nose type.

Looks like you're getting close Mal, now go knock out those remaining level 1's and 5's and get on Evo already!

I'll be taking my time with the rest of my THD goals, because my local mountain bike park, Northstar, just opened today. I want to get in as much riding as I can this summer, so I'll be playing a lot less until the snow starts again. Last summer I was so absorbed into Trials and the Ninja Leaderboard that I didn't go riding as much as I would have liked... gotta make up for that!

Totally off topic for this thread, but here's my favorite trail at Northstar.

The actual trail doesn't start until 3:12. I just wanted to show that you have to work a little to get to it.

Hey Mal, want to reply on your YouTube comment about your ability to pursue your own goals

These are the words we had on YouTube:
Chekka85 wrote: "Wow man! I am really really? impressed about how eagerly you pursue your own goals!! That is a very amazing characteristic that could get you anywhere - even in real life!"

Malachyte wrote: "Haha, thanks! I have contemplated that idea? myself from time to time. Now if only I could learn to apply this characteristic of mine to something that actually matters... like my career. I only seem to be able to apply myself like this when it comes to personal interests like music, mountain biking, video games, etc. :-/"

    here is my answer:
No! the actual fun is not the video game. Your THD goals are simply pure hard work. That's not the fun.
The fun is the feeling of success whenever you reach one these goals.
It only feels like fun cause you are very good at it. And why are you good at it? Because you do it hours a day. Excercise is everything.

Now this is getting philosphical, but I'm very interested in your opinion and experience about that.

I like this unexpected intellectual and philosophical tangent my Trials HD Goals thread is taking! Let's go with it!

I disagree... somewhat. I really find the process of trying to 0-fault most Level 1 tracks very fun. Passing Level 5s... not so much. So you're right that sometimes what drives me is only the feeling of success or sense of accomplishment. But in most cases I really do enjoy the process as well.

I think another relevant point is that I'm somewhat of an adrenaline junky... that's why I do extreme sports like Downhill Mountain Biking, Mountain Unicycling, and more recently Snowboarding. I know it seems really strange to bring this up in relation to video games, but Trials really does provide some great adrenaline rushes. On my 0-fault run of The Midnight Club I was damn near having a heart attack during my entire run on Greatest Hits (the last track). The same is true when I'm on the last few obstacles during a potential 0-fault run on a Ninja track. It's addicting!!!

Re: Malachyte's Trials HD Goals - No Evo 'til they're done!

I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same heart attack when I tried to platinum Test Your Might in Evo. Its truely addictive.

But the fact is, you could have that fun and adrenaline feeling in Evo as well. But you set your goals and stick to them.
You also agreed to me that it is sometimes only the feeling of success that pushes you forward. You could have that feeling during other activities as well - in real life e.g....

You know, the reason why I'm interested in your opinion about that is that I somehow have the same problem. The problem is that I do not dedicate enough to my real life goals. But I experience the same when it comes to video games. At some point, I simply give up. Cause I think its impossible, or I'm sick of trying.

Then I saw this thread, and your goals. I was like: Yeah, he is never going to finish those Level 5 tracks...
But now you did it!! Its unbelievable!! (at least for two tracks).
If you are able to dedicate so much to your video game goals that you even reject from playing a whole new (maybe even better), more fun game, then you have to be able to apply that to some other fields.

What is your experience when you tried to stick to real life goals?
