How to create a "new" environment?

So basically, I want to do a "beach landing" style track similar to the one in the single player campaign. But I can't work out the best way to build the backdrop/environment I require, to lay the track on.

So using this as an example, how do I go about creating a beach area next to a sea?

Where would I start laying down the terrain within the world?

How can I completely clear an area in order to build from "the ground up"?

I understand how to lay down terrain and create the atmosphere, backdrop and track. Its just creating/finding a clean starting point that I'd like help with. So far I've just experimented with the areas we already have available and started trying out some triggers/effects/etc on a flat piece of tarmac. But I would like to know how to prepare my own area ready to lay a track on.

    Thanks in advance!

Re: How to create a "new" environment?

First find a place on the map with lots of water, go to Environment > Terrain Modification > Terrain Shaping and press up to go into it's properties. Here you can select many different types of land mass (from river beds to ditches)

Make it slowly slope out of the water I guess and you can also add Terrain Decal (like sand, gravel/grass etc) There's a option to flatten or change the background, but if you press start and go into track settings and environment, you can even change the draw distance of the background; removing the mountains etc from sight if you want.

    Hope that helps (:

Yeah, thats pretty much what I've ended up trying. I think I will end up adjusting the draw distance and maybe adding a little fog. Also, changing the time of day to more around dawn. Hopefully I'll end up with the right feel to it and manage to get it to work!

I have managed to figure out the triggers enough to add in some explosions, etc to add to the effect and atmosphere, so I'm making progress! lol
