Re: List of things not to do in Evo tracks to make them bett

In chat a few days before release, I had a conversation with a few guys. We made a bunch of predictions of things that will be abused or over-used in the editor.

    1. The matrix effect. Rider gets stopped mid-air, then the camera spins around you like matrix
    2. Curved line abuse... self explanitory
    3. Catch on fire then water puts it out.
    4. Explosions causing you to jump really far, like in roller-coaster
    5. abuse of the ability to change from night to day
    6. First person shooters...

These are just a few of them, we came up with a lot of really good ones. Wish I saved the conversation!
I havent gotten into the custom scene yet, just played through the single player and got all platinums on the tracks, still have a few tournaments to go through. How were our predictions so far?

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but is there some certain way to test from both cameras that I'm missing? I see both camera objects in the editor but am I supposed to select a setting or something to switch the testing camera? Or are you referring to testing in editor vs. private multiplayer?

Don't use the cliff objects on your driving line. They're optimized to be used as scenery, so their collision boxes aren't very accurate. If you're going to use it on the line, either cover it with rock objects or set it to decoration only and add your own custom collision geometry.

Take out the extra checkpoints used in testing - Left a couple in my last track by mistake. So easy to do.

Agreed. I have been preaching this to track creators in HD but some of them still do it. If i play a custom and cant see the bike at a critical point (before a jump, etc) i immediately delete the track.

Don`t rate your track medium, and then, when you want to play, you have to see it`s an extreme track. Make sure that a medium track has a medium driving line.

    1. Don't allow bikes that can't complete the track. This means testing.

    2. Don't set unrealistic silver medal times.
Can't tell you how many times I've completed a hard/extreme custom, and felt pretty proud of my 57 fault, 7:00.000 performance, only to find that the silver medal is 2 faults, 1:30.000. Jeez, give me something a bit more realistic to shoot for!

WOW! LOTS TO ADHERE TO HERE! HOW ABOUT IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE TRACK, JUST DELETE IT LOL SERIOUSLY, TOO MANY COMPLAINTS HERE.
AND IF YOU ARE NOT A TRACK MAKER AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE EDITOR AND HOW COMPLICATED IT CAN BE THEN YOU SHOULD NOT POST IN THIS THREAD. SO...THAT SAID DO NOT HATE ME FOR MY OPINIONS.

    Skill games:

-Stop making example track clones. Guess what, RedLynx already did it right. You changing one thing (such as moving the ramp a meter) doesn't make it more fun.
