Make sure to test the obstacles from every check point with every bike selectable. You may be able to leap over one part, but if you fall you need to be able to get 'back on track', so to speak.
I found one online that was impossible if you fell at a certain point.
This is more for people playing the created tracks.
Rate them accordingly. Nothing worse than browsing through 50 5* tracks and only finding 1 decent one. If you feel its only worth 1* maybe message the creator and politely inform them what you feel is wrong.
Some people may be rating a friends track to boost ratings, but they are going to keep making terrible tracks without good feedback.

As a new track maker I want to agree with a couple points I try to use.
1. Test obstacles from the last check point.
2. Don't obscure the rider with foreground objects...too much.
3. Checkpoints after a hard section, especially on timed or throttle specific obstactles.
4. Flesh out the foreground and background.
5. Mix it up. Don't make tracks you can full throttle the whole track. Rollercoaster rides are fun but offer very little challenge.
Always keep the riding-line visable, no distracting decorations, effects or lack of light.
In supercross. test all 4 lanes with both cameras, and use LOTS of checkpoint.
Make the track your main priorety, and the background second priorety.
Make sure your medal times are realistic.
Be sure the track difficulty is fair, err on the side of caution here if you are inexperienced.
Good looking track are great...but not lagging one are better !!
try mine loll

(GT:- iFuNKT) this guy did a brilliant space station level and although ive played a few tracks with a space vibe it was the moon buggy sending out morse code that makes it stand above all others
