That's a different kind of spectrum. Welcome to the forums.Originally Posted by hokiepenvens![]()
A few comments. Yes, the origin of the first life on Earth is an unsolved (scientific) problem. Evolution is not really the correct term for this, abiogenesis or biopoiesis is more technically accurate.Originally Posted by QcChopper

How many problems were thought to have only supernatural explanations, but were later found to have a natural/scientific explanation? (thunder, earthquakes, disease, planetary motion, etc., etc., etc) Hundreds? Thousands? More?
How many problems were thought to have a natural explanation, but were later found to have a supernatural explanation? Umm, I'm coming up short here. Zero?
So if you had to bet on a trend, how do you think the problem of abiogenesis may be solved? ( I'll lay my chips on "science", thanks.)
You have a common misconception about the use of "theory" with regard to evolution. In common use, we usually mean something like "hunch" or "unfounded speculation". As used by scientists, though, it is the MOST reliable form of scientific knowledge. Some good examples:
[list:2u79n36h][*:2u79n36h]Germ Theory of Disease (medicine)[/*:m:2u79n36h]
[*:2u79n36h]Tectonic Plate Theory (geology)[/*:m:2u79n36h]
[*:2u79n36h]Atomic Theory of Matter (physics/chemistry)[/*:m:2u79n36h]
[*:2u79n36h]Theory of Relativity (physics)[/*:m:2u79n36h]
[*:2u79n36h]Theory of Evolution (biology)[/*:m:2u79n36h][/list:u:2u79n36h]
ALL of these theories are well-substantiated explanations, based on a body of knowledge that has been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. I don't see too many people arguing that we shouldn't believe about electrons and protons and germs and stuff because they are "just theories".
Hey guys, Im not sure, but have we found every plank? Because if we haven't, I know a place where we can see all of them at once..
I think we have, but where are you talking about?Originally Posted by Fallenultima
This was said in another post, but in the editor on "Big Sands", if you make the water invisible in the water settings, the top of the map is filled with textures. If go to the extreme top right corner of the world, you can see the planks. It could be all of them, but im not sure. There are some planks that are cut off and dont have any text on them though. Use a game camera and zoom in to get a better look. You can also see the planks on the "Paine Island" map in the same location.
Yeah some of them can maybe be seen from there but that's exactly why I love the true players; they probably all know about this but they're trying to figure out the secret just the way it was intended to.Originally Posted by Fallenultima
I actually never intended finding that, just screwing around in the editor.
While it may be disappointing to you to see people 'figuring out the secret' through means other than those originally intended..there's no need to have a snarky dig. FU is a true player and the point could be argued that these disappointments could have been avoided by not leaving those textures there in the first place.Originally Posted by mutetus
Yeah, seriouslyOriginally Posted by JoeRegular. If anything that sort of resourceful prying should be commended. We're here looking under every single rock, down to the last pixel, searching for any hidden secrets and meanings. How can you look down on someone for pointing out something that was given to us in the game?
I think you guys are taking what he said the wrong way.
