I'd say the beginner tracks and extreme tracks in Trials EVO are slightly harder than the original ones in Trials HD, while easy and medium tracks are pretty much on par, and hard tracks are slightly easier. But that's just my opinion.
I can zero fault all the original (not DLC) Trials HD extreme tracks pretty constantly (not every time, but with two or three tries), but I still haven't zero faulted all Trials Evo extremes (two of the hardest ones). There's plenty of challenge in the game.
