ive mentioned this before but i like the way pgr4 handled online tournaments and i think Trials would work great with their method.
theres a qualifying stage where you submit your best time on a given event and if you qualify then its followed by knockout rounds right up to quarters, semis and the final.
with each round the lesser skilled players get knocked out leading up to the last few rounds with the best players online at that moment.
if you made it to the final and finished in the top 3 it gave you a medal. each medal gives a different point score and theres a tournament leaderboard ordering who has the most points earned from online tournaments and how many times theyve earned silver, gold or platinum etc.
id love to see this implemented, i used to really enjoy the online tourneys on that game.
I am assuming that you can spectate a race if not there may be issues streaming.......

Best solution, just give me all the prizes.

Thanks for the clarification. The "you cannot make one single mistake" in the OP threw me off. So it's in real-time and you're surrounded by ghosts...yea that could be a little distracting. and theoretically you could make a mistake but you'll be playing catch-up the rest of the race.Originally Posted by jenkki
That sounds good cause it's unlikely the best of the best can do their replay run on their first try for hard and extreme.
RL might have to add a page to the Track Central that lets riders know when the competitions start with a countdown clock. And when it's time, you race till you're out. but again, try not to do it one and done.
MLG does it with a Winners Bracket and Losers Bracket. So in theory top two would move on to Winners Bracket, bottom two would move to Losers Bracket. Bottom two of a LB race are out, top two of a LB race move on till their out. It gets interesting in the latter rounds when some of the consistent WB riders would face the riders who've been hanging on in the LB.
Not sure how you're going to do the global competitions, cause when it's 5pm for me it's 11pm in the UK and 5am in AUS(those are guesses btw). We'll need some notice to get off work.
Another thing i was thinking would be to not have it all be in-game tracks. Maybe an in-game, a user made, and then a special competition track no one's seen (but would be available after in Track Central). I know some of you are old enough to remember "the Wizard" with Fred Savage & SMB3 & the whistle.

yes it's a huge gap. im 567th and the difference in my runs to the top couple of hundred is huge. Those guys/gals are on another levelOriginally Posted by spoonfed![]()
it's hard to see how good people really are though, because you only ever see the best of them, take Murdoch for example, i have watched lots of his runs but how long and how many restarts did they take, i have never seen him fault and i dont know him personally, so if i give him a pad and 1 run at inferno II would he just destroy it imediately or would he have to be cautious because he only has 1 attempt![]()
i cant wait to see replays of the really top guys having 1 shot runs in a four way face off.
Its gonna be a tough task to get all skill levels to be involved, but i hope, no i have faith you will pull it off somehow.
ps,
No offence to Murdoch, you was the first person of trials quality that popped into my head.
Outstanding! Any time there's talk of game tournaments I think of The Wizard. Well done to you sir.Originally Posted by MurdocLoch
And if I could throw my two cents in as a devoted but unskilled Trials HD player, I really like the idea of a tiered sytem that lets players compete against those with a similar skill level. The only potential issue I can see is that it will take a bit for the leaderboards to shuffle out correctly since some very skilled players may not have the time to climb the leaderboards right away (though I'm sure most will make the time).
Some good ideas here though, and it's great to see RL reaching out to the community for suggestions as I think Trials is a perfect platform for tourneys. I'm excited to see what they decide to do.
This was a cracking tournament which at it's peak had 80-90 riders.Trying to stay in the top league was a task and a half.Originally Posted by Richieburner![]()
Made some good friends in this league, had some good banter and it catered for all skill levels, beginner to robot. I hope the guys on the OXF are having a tourny for Evo.If you read this Flembo, respect, and hope you have something in mind for us!![]()
Along with any RedLynx tournys,we could be very very busy riding hard..........................No change there then!![]()
