    Re: Editing Terrain

Got very few references to terraforming, and mostly they are like this

For the more dedicated, the potential of the pro editor is dizzying. Again, it's a case of selecting a start and end point, but what happens between opens itself up to much more influence. Terrain can be altered and events can be introduced, while physics, lighting and camera angles can all be shifted.

However, what I really want to know, and doubt very much, is if you can create alternative driving lines. Rather than it be a high or a low route, have a hard straight across the middle, or a slower, easier round the outside (of a lake for example)

Sure you can....just copy the track and make a separate driveline

    Re: Editing Terrain

I've been wondering about this as well.

I'm hoping for something similar to From Dust as well. I know we'll be able to have water pretty much anywhere we want from what I've seen from the videos. I'm curious if we'll be able to do the same with dirt as well?

Redlynx did say they have an editor video coming soon, hopefully that will answer any questions people have.

I don't know if any of you have played around with Kodu Game Lab published by Microsoft Research in the Indie Games Channel, but I imagine the terrain editing will be very similar to that. But less "blocky."

If you haven't seen this program, check it out. It is an insanely deep and interesting visual programming tool developed to help kids understand game mechanics, among other things.

I bought it day one and look forward to my kid playing around on it when he gets old enough. By the way, this isn't a sales pitch...

Because as the devs have always said anything they build we can, we can duplicate anything they make. So we have to have the ability to alter terrain, I would only asse they have.
i know theyve said that we can 'alter' the terrain, but that might not mean you could create a whole mountain range for the backdrop of your track.
'alter' could just mean smoothing areas, adding trees etc, raising water level... im talking of completely changing the whole default map eg. making the grand canyon next to mount everest next to angel falls all inside the amazon rainforest.

    Re: Editing Terrain

i belive i remember them saying they hand sculpted the whole land scape with the editor and then named sections of the map.
i dont think the game world was generated by computer.

all the tracks were done by hand why not the 2x4km world?

they would have had to plan out every track befor hand if they made the world by computer. then not be able to dump moutins, hills, canyons were they please would just suck.

and how else would you make your own ocean without diging a big hole for the water to go in?

Look at the warehouse...seriously, go back and play all the way through Trials HD...Even though it was the same place each and every single time the people who put so much effort into it made it different each and every time. Not to mention some of the amazing tracks that the community was able to come up with. This time around we have a giant landscape along with the ability to curve the track. IMO the only time we will see similarities will be with the first few dodgy tracks uploaded that will be carbon copies of tracks in the game. Mind you, I can't wait to see someone bring back some of the classics from trials HD

Why is there no warehouse in the "world" - would make that so much easier. Inside "sounds" with reverb / echo, would also be necessary !
