we all know the editor is going to be incredible and give us creators a huge amount of freedom.
but just how incredible it will be, in my opinion, will largely be down to how well you can edit the terrain.
if you can only place your objects around the default map, as large as it is, it would still limit us and im sure eventually we'd be able to recognize the areas that people are using to make their tracks with etc.
but if we can fully edit the whole terrain (raise, lower, smooth, set level) then every single track could be set in a completely unique place giving us literally limitless freedom.
so does anyone know if we've had any info on how well we can terra-form the default map that i might have missed? im really hoping its going to at least match how advanced Far Cry's editor is when changing the terrain.
IMO it should work off a grid setting like polygons and you should be able to select one piece or more off the terrain to able to shift it, alter it how we like.
And you can place objects into the Terrain as much as you like I'm sure I've seen a video where concrete pipes have been pretty much lodged in the ground.
And yes you could pretty much stage it anyhere. It sounds pretty beast though Willy!
As an obsessive Easter Egg hunter I'd already considered how the terrain could play a part if there was another riddle.
Imagine this.
Just like in HD the tracks could contain individual clues, together some of these clues could give coordinates where you'd have to dig to uncover something significant. Obviously this wouldn't work if the area is too small or the dig/lower tool is too easy/quick to use.
Pure fantasy, sorry for going off topic![]()
i hope it will be like in the arcade game "From Dust"
even if we can only add things to the terrain we're given its a massive step up from the warehouse. but if we can easily make mountains, valleys, beaches, canyons, cliffs, hills, maybe even caves.. it would just make an already amazing in-game editor that much better.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do all these things. Just look at the clips of tracks we seen and think of all the tracks that are going to be in the game. There's no way that over 50 tracks can be all made in the same world without having the ability of alter it.Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ
If we couldn't alter the terrain then every in game track would have to pretty much be in the editor world. Because as the devs have always said anything they build we can, we can duplicate anything they make. So we have to have the ability to alter terrain, I would only asse they have.
Let's not forget that you can create your own terrain in the sky .. we've seen this in the early videos with the floating rock islands like avatar and the giant hanging chain links..
thats true but its not really editing terrain, its just adding objects without physics so they float, which you could do in hdOriginally Posted by Airease![]()
another thing to think about is the object limit. assuming editing the terrain wont affect object/space limit (like the wall blocks in hd) you could save a lot of objects by using the terrain to create the overall shape of the track.
i also think the way far cry lets you 'paint' trees and bushes etc. would work great aswell.
That's actually a very good point.Originally Posted by WILLYUMZ
its been said in 1or 2 interviews that you can edit the terain and in 1 track i saw it looks like you can tunnle your way through mountains to create caves.
i wonder if you can make a train stay on the tracks to go in 1 end of a moutain and out the other, and you race over the top to try catch the train on the other side then ride on top and thats the only way to get to the finish line.
also how fast will it go before it de-rails.
now that would be a pure speed run track
high speed bullet train vs bike.
that would be so cool.
