Re: Ninja Gaiden III
I've played about 5 hours into it. As a standalone game, I think it's pretty fun for the most part, but when comparing it to the other games in the series, especially Black/Sigma, a lot of its flaws are just unforgivable.
I'm fine with having extra weapons as DLC, but to give the player only the dragon sword and hold the rest of them (which were included as part of the base game in previous titles) for ransom as paid DLC, that's just wrong. I played almost exclusively with the lunar staff in the previous two games, but I'm not going to pay extra to buy back a feature that I've come to expect as part of the core game experience.
What I miss the most from NG Black is the level design. It was a true action/adventure game, with levels branching off from a well-crafted hub world, with places to explore and secret items to collect. NG II was much more linear and guided than it's predecessor, and now NG3 has taken it a step further to become an all-out corridor brawler. It's just one repetitive and mundane fight after another, with some really basic auto-pilot platforming in-between.
The quick-time events really don't bother me too much, but there are a lot of things missing from this game that really bring it down, like the complete lack of all inventory items, no essence to collect or use for charging of heavy attacks, no health potions (except for your Ninpo, which heals you for some strange reason), no collectible items whatsoever, no weapon upgrades; the list just goes on and on.
The worst part of all is when Ryu's nasty, infected arm randomly decides to start glowing, and he stumbles around at a snail's pace like he's on some kind of acid trip for about five minutes, with the camera getting stuck inside walls while enemies claw away at your health.
And then there's the story... You know what, let's not even go there.

Ngb 10/10
Ng2 8.5/10

Re: Ninja Gaiden III
ng 1-3 on nes are some of my favorites of all time...
ng/ngb on xbox is one of my favorite games of all time...
did not like ng2 and ng3 seems to be going further in the wrong direction so gonna stay away from it. i'd honestly rather go back and play thru ngb when i need a fix, it just does not get any better than that game.

Re: Ninja Gaiden III
Yeah.
This is exactly right games for getting more entertainment, stop making games designed to appeal to the best.
