    Windows 8 Consumer Preview

You too can get Windows 8.

Microsoft has opened the doors on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. If you get it, please take a few minutes to tell everyone what you think.

Completely agreed, that tiled "Metro" look is just ugly and it looks a lot less useful that the standard Windows interface. It seems like they're focusing too much on users with touchscreen devices and leaving the majority of PC users behind

I'm sure I read that the standard desktop is still in Windows 8.

I won't be doing it as I'm not familiar with installing a new OS on pc so I'm not risking it.
I hate the "metro" style. It's awful on the Xbox dash so having it on pc just seems even worse to me.

Since I can buy the new word for Windows 7 there is no use for the new.
The old interface will still be available but you cannot set it to be starter menu. (There will be some hack I am sure).
Except for the appstore there is nothing new that justifies the purchase.

Microsoft will fail with its OS I think. Kinda like Vista.. But I want a Windows 8 Tablet if it can run all desktop applications.

    Re: Windows 8 Consumer Preview

I had a hard enough time installing Windows 7, trying to make a boot disk from DigitalRiver's .exe file for a clean install, and then hacking values in regedit to trick the OS into accepting my "upgrade media" activation code. It was a complete fiasco, to say the least.
There's no way I'm about to do all that again any time soon.

Also, does Win8 even have any useful new features for non-tablet users?
