A couple of quotes from two of the devs which will hopefully answer your questions.

local supercross does have sppawning logic with penalty if player falls off the screen because obviously players need to be in one single screen.
In online supercross there is no need to keep players in the same screen so camera tracks your own bike.

If you fault, you will respawn at the last checkpoint you passed as it does in Trials HD, but with a short pause to deter fault spammers (is that a term?). Whoever crosses the finish line first gets the maximum points (unless they have faulted).

Thirdly it means that if everyone wipes out but one player, that player could just put their trollface mask on and never cross the next checkpoint (Also as a side note, what happens if all four players wipe out?).
This is LOCAL multiplayer you are talking about. In local multiplayer all players must be always visible in the screen (you are playing on a single console & single TV set). Too tight slopes or tall obstacles would cover up the view and players in the furthest away lines wouldn't see their bike. Local multiplayer is designed for fun party playing with your friends.

If your friend stops for infinite time and does not reach the next checkpoint, you can simple:
    A) Grab the controller out of his hand, and ride his bike over the line.
    B) Yell like maniac to his ear, and see how long he lasts.
    C) Go grab something to eat from the fridge and stare at him until he starves to death.

    So many options

When playing online, you can play Trials game mode, and select from any single player tracks. Yes even the extremes are included. Other players will not get into your way as you can ride though them (ghost riders). As a bonus, you can also yell to their ears in this game mode if you have a headset

If we are playing extreme tracks and someone finishes first, are they then able to watch one of the other riders continue their run?

I hope so because I don't want to be waiting for ages or anyone else to be waiting for ages without being able to have a laugh or watch something.

I've been seeing green names all day at the bottom. Maybe they've had a breakthrough. I would like to see an answer on this too wicket.

Can we watch other people after we finish the race, or will it be some kind of marker?

The reason why it is so imporatant to me is because I once said to Sebbi...

"I would love a game mode where we all have a certain amount of lives to reach the end and we take it in turns playing and therefore can watch eachother and have a laugh" . So I go first and everyone is watching, if I loose all my lives, the only way someone can beat me is if they pass me or if I finish the race it boils down to my time and lives remaining Vs theirs"
