    Multiplayer Respawn System

    EDIT: Turns out this is for local multiplayer only. So basically you can disregard everything you're about to read:

    What do you think of the respawn system for the multiplayer shown in the gameplay?

    Personally I think it's pretty bad. Firstly it eliminates all possibility of actually difficult tracks appearing in multiplayer. Secondly it means two players who died at different times before a checkpoint will be tied last when they respawn in the game's eyes. Thirdly it means that if everyone wipes out but one player, that player could just put their trollface mask on and never cross the next checkpoint (Also as a side note, what happens if all four players wipe out?). Finally the point system seems a little dumb. I don't think I'd feel like I won just because I got the most (or fewest) points even when I crossed the finish line last. A racing game should be about who crosses the finish line first IMO.

    Obviously this wouldn't stop me from buying the game 'd buy it for the editor alone), but it WOULD most likely put me off playing the live multiplayer (Unless of course there's more than one mode aside frpm ghost vs ghost). I'd much rather stick with trying to beat my frineds' times. But is it really too much to ask for a skill based live multiplayer as well?

    So, how do you guys feel about this system?

    Having not played it yet I can't say.

    Although, if I had a time-machine I could give you a definitive answer. Sadly, my time-machine is at the garage as my sonic recombobulator packed up

    Yeah I've seen plenty of gameplay, my point is that I haven't played it so therefore I can't preempt what is or isn't any good or how it will work in a live multiplayer race.

    Fair enough. I'd have thought anyone who'd seen the gameplay must have a basic idea of whether they thought they would enjoy playing it or not. Isn't this why people tend to look at gameplay before making a purchase?

    Looks good from what I've seen. I think Redlynx have played it so much they've got the respawns down and that it will be fair to everyone who's playing.

    From what I've heard there will be 2 different types of online MP, there could be others but these are the 2 modes I remember hearing about.

    I can't remember the name of one of the modes, but it will have only single lane tracks. It will show ghosts of where the other riders are so you don't have to worry about wrecking into them. There should be expert tracks in this mode.

    The other mode is called Motocross, and that's the tracks with 4 lanes paralleling each other. If you're playing this mode over LIVE, players will not always be on the same screen. Meaning if you wreck and are in first you don't have to wait until the others pass that checkpoint before you go. The only time they keep you on the same screen is over local multiplayer, that's because the camera would have to go really far back to keep everyone in the same screen if they can't keep up.

    I could be wrong about some of those details so don't quote me on it.

    If anyone buy's this for the multiplayer alone they're missing the point. It's a great addition and I'm looking forward to racing my friends online no doubt, whether or not it's the be-all-and-end-all of actually buying the game though, no, I frankly don't care how it works as long as it's functional and gives me a few more hours fun as a distraction from the core game.

    I refuse to watch any videos but I have read up a lot on this game. From what I understand, the respawn system you are talking about is for the local multiplayer, where you are respawned with the group if you fall off the screen or fault. I havent played it or seen it and don't care to comment until I have.

    For online multiplayer, everyone has their own screen. If you fault you start at your last checkpoint, and will not fall off the screen because everyone has their own screen and all four riders don't need to share the same screen. Hope this helps clear that up for you.

    Hope you're right. But in a vid I remember somebody saying that the multiplayer is playable over live AS YOU SEE IT when showing local gameplay. IDK maybe I'm reading too much into it.

    I never disagreed with that point. Though personally as the multiplayer stands I doubt I'd be touching it. But I'll still be playing this game in two years no doubt
