2 years of trials and STILL haven't got the hang of it....

I have played regularly for 2 years, and have some good times, but why o why can I not get this game down. Still can't get plat on goin up, I 0 faulted it but in about 5 minutes. I play hundreds of hours yet something is missing for me to actually 'get it'. I know how to do all the moves, but something stops me being consistent. Maybe I've become too rigid in my approach?

It makes me wonder how top riders like ko, 420, shockwave etc actually do it, manage to rock 0 fault runs time after time and get consistently good times. Those guys actuallPy pioneer new ways of doing the tracks, and many others copy to take first place. I take my hat off to them, and guys on my friends list like beastmode and willyumz who have kept on improving where others falter.

I'm not ranting here, I love trials, but why o why can I not ******g perfect these tracks. I was trying to beat my time on house of horrors, I'm about 1800 at the moment and some mental block stops me from doing it better. 455646 attempts to get that first flick jump over the boxes at the start, I pull it off once then I'm so overjoyed that I **** the next bit up. Then do you think I can do it again? Can I ****!!!!

I'm on the sofa like ****** **** this ****** track it does my ****** head in haha, my mrs is like man why do you play this game and I say, I don't know because it makes me so infuriated with myself but I love it. I attempted inferno 2 hundreds of times, and my only 0 fault run was platinum but sketchy as hell. I can do every section perfectly, but when I try it all at once, it becomes a collection of maybes. How do you guys do it, is it practicing the same section over and over for hours, or pure knowledge of how the bike reacts in every situation?

Redlynx, you are breaking me lol, but I love you for it. I wonder if at 36, years of weed abuse and clubbing in my 20's has ruined my reactions lol, this thread is really for fun, I wonder if others have the same experiences, maybe not after 2 years tho lol.

When I first played this game. I never speeded through it, I just kept pressing B everytime I messed up... I passed all the tracks and didn't play again then something just said to me try and get gold on them all, I set through everyday trying to get gold for ages, and then moved to platiuming the tracks it does take awhile but practise is always needed in this game, it's easy to one obstacle on it's own, practise combining which way is easier to flick into the next jump.

It takes some people longer than others, when you are younger your reactions are quicker. But aside that it's all muscle memory emcee, you can do it.

You have this mental block because you know you're going to mess up. Say this to yourself I'm going to beat global shockwave now, I'm gonna get the best time and you will improve loads! You just have to believe in yourself to do it.

One thing that I got OCD about was getting a good start so the b button is never pressed it's always back to the start so I know that is not helping. I think the mindset is as you say nova, I am frustrated with the inconsistency so it ruins my run before I start.

It requires such precise skill to do well, And repeat it again and again. Trying to replicate in this game is a tough one. To be fair my target is a top 100 time, i come close but I think **** after 2 years of playing I should be able to nail this.

A question since you both have high lb on it, do you pull off the start of skyway every time? Or the first glass window on let's get physical? Or the start of house of horrors? Do they still take you multiple tries?

If anyone wants to add me my tag is

    the emcee

More replays to shake my fist at haha

Re: 2 years of trials and STILL haven't got the hang of it....

one thing ive mentioned in the past is finishing every run even when you **** it up, because if you restart after every little slip up you only ever really learn the first few obstacles of the track, which then means never getting a solid run all the way through.
you have to improve gradually or it never happens.

another thing i think has helped me is spending so much time in the editor. it really gives more consistent control over the bike because youre constantly playing new obstacles that you havent practised for months and months and you have to improvise a bit which helps you learn the physics and techniques more thoroughly.

i spent nearly all of last year on customs and making my own tracks and i feel much better at the game than i was when i set all my current times.
its just a shame theyve all slipped so much since then

youve also got to remember all the people that are nowhere near as good as you, and how they feel when they watch your replays

I think there are far more people in the same boat as you than you think. This forum is full of a lot of the top riders, but that is the VAST minority. Millions of people are worse than you and I... I have had the goal to get a top 100 time forever, and still haven't done it. My highest at one point was 300-something. Its so frustrating, yet I still play a lot haha. Definitely get into the custom scene tho for fresh levels, fresh obstacles, and also if you want, get into the ninja levels to really push yourself. It makes the easier levels feel a LOT easier.

Oi will your times are something I often aim for but seldom manage to match. I almost had you at one point but then you seemed to just improve overnight lol...

Raist and dirt, seems that us older folk have something in common that these youngsters have coming later, our youths catching up with us haha

Nytmair, you make a good point there, it's easy to forget that progress has been made no matter how small. I do have a few customs but ninja is beyond my level for sure!

Thanks for the input and friend requests people! It's cool to hear how others beat their trials demons. I'm going to take a fresh outlook on it next time I play and you top riders will wish you hadn't told the emcee your secrets. Either that or I spend 2 hours trying the shortcut at the start of race or die and put my controller through the fish tank
