Sorry if I led you astray. I'm not even sure where that link came from but it doesn't look like the one I intended on posting.
Anyway, it looks like TextPlus is only supported in North America as it relies a specific network to message mobiles (via SMS) that don't have the app. Still, not sure why it is available in Australia and don't understand why they wouldn't allow the download just for the app-to-app messaging. Anyway, it looks like you will either have to register with the us iTunes store or run it on a jail-broken device.
If you do find a solution please post it here for others to see.
...also, I've had a look through the textplus.com support section but couldn't find anything. It wouldn't hurt to ask the devs here: http://help.textplus.com/customer/widget/emails/new
