Yeah, why do native English speakers think English is hard? It's pretty much the easiest language in the world, which is why it's so great. The only thing one could complain about is the phonetics (something that Finnish for instance does great), grammar-wise it's incredibly straight forward. I've studied German for six years as well and that's a pretty tricky language. I can hold a decent conversation, as long as the person I'm talking to isn't speaking too fast.Originally Posted by Happyflow
Then of course I speak Swedish. So, three languages. This might provide some quick insight into what the rest of us go through, with emphasis on the grammar section.![]()
I'm trying to get better at English, so please correct any mistakes I make. Thank you in advance.
I believe English is hardest for people who do not speak a Germanic language.
German and English for me... Learned some Latin in school, but in general I forgot everything right by leaving the classroom.
@happyflow & JJ
I really wanna hear you speak(!) fluent Latin![]()
Yeah man fluent Latin is crazy. I learnt French and German at school and know a tiny bit of spanish. I thought I'd forgot most of the French until I went to Spain.. I'd forgotten nearly all the Spanish I knew but it instantly came to me in French. Goes to show that the knowledge is there somewhere in your deepest darkest recesses of your brain, you just need the right triggers to prompt it.
I'd say something like Mandarin or Arabic would be one of the harder languages to learn. I have a friend who studied Sanskrit at uni -he was in a class of 1. That's gotta be hard.
I speak german at a 6th grade level, that's when I stopped paying attentionEnglish is by far the easiest language IMO, well except for Sumerian, which I master to the fullest

Why are so many people learning german, anyway? Just want to know...![]()
id like to learn german, i wish i couldve done it at school instead of french.
Where I live, we get to choose between French, Spanish and German at the age of twelve or thirteen (in addition to English which we start learning when we're eight or nine). I chose German because I found it to be badass, and also because a girl I liked did. Retrospectively, maybe I should have chosen French, though I like being able to speak some German.Originally Posted by xXDonReneXx

Same here, I guess most people here choose german because Denmark is so close to germany, so knowing the langauge can be very useful. I actually wanted to learn french cause I have alot of family there, but only four other people signed up, so the class was cancelled altogether.Originally Posted by antng
