I was just reading, or rather not, reading the French forum thing.. and having worked out, imbecile means ****** idiot ( I got called a name) I was wondering if anyone speaks several languages.
Being English and totally ignorant to the rest of the world, and having took 3 languages at school, I can't speak a word of any.. well maybe hello etc in a few![]()
So is there anyone on this forum who speaks a few, or what countries learn more than English as standard at school.. cause let's face it, most people, even young kids can speak English, no matter where there from.. which is impressive really..
Also, is English easy to learn compared to others..
Or what is the easiest or most difficult![]()
i moved to wales when i was 10, (moved back to england this year) and welsh is compulsory up to 16 years old. and i hated it, cant even remember any.
i did french and spanish for my A levels, predicted A grade for both and got Cs. that was 2 years ago and i cant remember much of them either![]()
id say spanish was easier to learn because i found the words more straightforward to pronounce which makes remembering it much easier.
i also speak english.
edit: english is by far the hardest language to learn, so many irregularities with verbs and tenses etc. im grateful its my first language![]()
I know how to count in French but otherwise English is my only language. I would love to learn another but the time and dedication needed is ridiculous![]()
English is the hardest language to learn?! ;=)
My mouthertounge is german. I have latin, english, spanish and french in school and am capable of speaking all of them extremely well. English is by far the easiest language to learn. Irregular verbs are existent in all languages, english has few tenses and only one article. I think german is hardest. Nearly every word is irregular, of course Russian, Chinese and Japanese are even harder![]()
My mother is from Russia, so I was taught some Russian when i was young. After my parents recently adopted two orphans from Ukraine, Ive learned more. And I have to say, with just listening to them speak, and asking what a few words mean once in a while, Ive been able to learn a few hundred words in just a few months. (Obviously not that much, but considering I had NO lessons, I think it was kinda easy)
all the foreign exchange students/teachers told me they found english hardest by a long way in terms of spelling, grammar and pronunciation but not my place to say as ive never had to 'learn' itOriginally Posted by Happyflow![]()
i also heard somewhere that the hardest is for japanese speakers learning a european language as we have phonetic sounds that they would never use in their native language.
again im not japanese so i dont know specifics.
oh and i also started learning mandarin using some computer program when i was at college but when we found out a few weeks in it wasnt compulsory i quit.
cant remember spelling but pronunciation-wise "yinghai sha shema difang" is something like wheres the bank? maybe anyway![]()
Could hold a convo in Irish and Spanish, wouldnt be winning any poetry slams though. Want to learn French before I kick the bucket.
Edit: We'll all be speaking Chinese in ten years anyway![]()
I speak German, English and Latin. English was rather easy to learn compared to Latin. 4years of Latin and I can barely even remember more than 10 words! That was some succesfull studying!![]()
