Oh ok thanksOriginally Posted by iChogginNogginteresting...never heard of that. Man if people wanna pay for replays? Thats just silly.
Why do you deserve the money robz?
You all bring up very valid points. The key difference here is that we are creating the content that ultimately gets bought as opposed to other freemium games. As far as my proposal goes, only the winner of the day gets paid. And only on the run that wins. For instance, if I set a WR in 5 minutes after the day starts and I get a thousand replays, then someone beats me with 5 minutes to go and they have 10 replays, they get a share of that and I get nothing. If I take it back in the last minute and don't get any replays before the day is over, I get nothing. redlynx still gets money. And the person who wins gets money. Waiting to post a score doesn't help them, only redlynx. And it gets more people trying to post good times early. And it helps to ensure glitches get worked out so there aren't any improper times. I'm sure some of you will disagree. Some of you may agree. Some will put up their own proposal. If I'm creating content that gets bought, I want to be paid for it. That's not entitlement...
You're not creating content, you're playing a GAME that Redlynx CREATED. How can you possibly think having a replay generated from your fastest time is content YOU created and that you should receive monetary payment for it. Again I say LOL
The Replay IS the content you create. So I "lol" at you Jar!
I don't agree with Robz though, it's a free game. Earn RL some money. Your enjoyment is payment enough.
My thoughts ran along the lines of how many hours of enjoyment for an original investment of like 2$. They give us a way to give them more money. It's like a tip.
Personally I don't care about the replays. Trials hd had replays for the top 5000 players. You know those people spent hundreds of hours of their life getting to the top, and they give us the joy of their replay. You know what it's like checking out their runs and trying to copy them. Mad skillz and then some. Heroz is on a different scale, but the enjoyment people get has to be the same. They probably sit at home and think the top 10 are cheaters. How can they possibly cut off 3 seconds off? Now they know.
I'm not advocating for a payment system in trials because replays are free in that game. I'm not saying I don't get enjoyment from this game now, because I do. I enjoy the competition and the camaraderie and the friendships that have developed over the last 160+ days. I appreciate RedLynx for making this game, letting me buy it, making content for it (which I paid for because I bought the game), and rewarding the developers for their work through that payment. They chose to move to a freemium model and that's their right to do so. They developed the game. I, however, do not remember seeing a EULA which says they can sell my replay without me getting compensated for it.
Think if it outside the game for a moment. I create an app that allows people to draw something and charged $2 for it. You bought it because it was good. So did 50k other people. Now, I decide to turn it freemium and you can now see other peoples' best drawings for a given day, but only if you pay with a virtual token, which others need to most likely buy. You (the artist) gets no compensation for your work. However, you already bought the app. You won't get a refund for it. You also don't want a refund because you enjoy the app. But someone buying your drawing because it's good and only me getting the money for what you created somehow seems right?
You are right... and my use of 'sense of entitlement' was unfair.Originally Posted by TheRobZ
Regardless, I can't see how a profit share could be anything but a trivial amount and the effort required on Redlynx's side be anything other than huge. As soon as money is on the table people will game the **** out of it and Redlynx need to prevent that from happening. IMO, I'd rather they put the effort into more levels/features/user stats etc. Or better still, maintain a profitable franchise and create more games.
The amount of content we got in this game for a mere 99c is so huge that I feel I ripped off the Redlynx guys in the first place. So any sort of way to give back to them is basically a good thing to me, though I'm not a big fan of the whole buying replays thing. The way I see it, it could be considered as some sort of donation account, so I'll eventually use it to hand them some dollars for all the countless hours of fun I already received from the game. I don't know how much money Redlynx made with the game, but I'm sure they're not stacking huge amounts of dollar bills in their bathtubs right now, so I'd never ask them to share their probably not so huge profits with me just cause I put some hours into making a 15 second run. Compared to their work, that's ridiculous.
If there must be some sort of reward for having your own replay seen often, I'd rather have it the way that Nytmair proposed - some sort of point bonus. That's the only way that actually would make sense to me: Be good in the game, gain in the game. Do nothing outside of the game, gain nothing outside of the game.
I think it's more like they gave you an inked sketch and you colored it.Originally Posted by TheRobZ

Redlynx isn't selling YOUR replay, they are selling tokens to watch whatever replay happens to be in the top spot, which is a feature that wasn't present before the update. As they are not selling your replay, but a "Replay Theater Token" then they don't new anything in the EULA. Besides, you should read the GameCenter EULA again if you don't think this kind of thing is covered.
I like ya Robz, I just don't agree with you on this one topic.
