    Disk Drive Problems! (solved)

After I've restarted my PC my 2nd. Disk drive doesn't seem to work correctly anymore.
It's not being listed in the device manager anymore and I can't open it either. Although the cables are all still in place and a little light on it keeps on blinking.
I gave me best to get it to work again without, put still failed. So I'm asking you guys if anybody knows how to fix the problem.
PS: I had a virtuall disk drive installed which I deinstalled again, did that may cause the problem?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!

Does the drive make any sounds when it is plugged in?

It sounds, to me, as if it may have crashed.

No sounds at all. I also thought it was stuck but it isn't.
Pressing the button to open it does nothing at all.

    Re: Disk Drive Problems!

Ohhhh. You mean an Optical Drive (CD/DVD/BR) and not a Hard Disk Drive, my mistake!

Also, all Optical Media Drives have a manual eject switch. There should be a tiny hole on the front of the drive the you can shove a straightened out paper clip into in case there is media stuck in the drive when it fails.

With the light on the front blinking, we can be sure of at least 1 thing. It's getting power.

You may want to check the IDE or SATA cable that transmits data from the drive to the computer. It looks possible that the drive isn't receiving instructions from the PC and powering up into a disabled state.

I will try that right now.
I may just want to leave the case open since I have to open it everyday anyways.

    Re: Disk Drive Problems!

Thanks Shifty, problem solved. The caple leading to the board got lose because of the fan right next to them. I forgot to check the connection to the board earlier . I switched the positions of the cables and now it works fine again.
Also realized that I'll soon have to clear my pc from dust again.
So thanks in two ways you Samurai full of wisdom!!
