What's everyone's preference? I use Stick and Trigger.
Gotta be stick and trigger... Just what im used to. I actually played a bit with an arcade stick (fighting stick) just messing around adn while the buttons didnt give me much control, the fighting stick was actually really responsive and accurate (because it is larger). If I could get this with analog triggers of some sort then I think I'd make a hardcore controller...
There have been a few threads on this same issue over the years (didn't look them up tho) but what i recall was a dev confirmed that the Dpad actually did give you an advantage at the 45degree angles as this allowed for 100% at 45 degrees whereas the sticks only give out 85% or something. Not really an issue with the game itself but some skills games (Ski one) really need it.
Stick and a button... Sometimes I switch to trigger on extremes. I like the 100% throttle with the a button!
Stick and triggers for me.
I honestly cant believe that people can play this game well using the buttons and d-pad. With the A and B buttons there are only 2 inputs, 0% and 100%, theres no control over the throttle, which surely makes steep hill climbs (like the one at the end of Pilgrimage) really difficult. And I personally find the d-pad to be unresponsive and, again, an input of 0% or 100% which doesnt allow for as much control over the weight shifting.
surely you are at a disadvantage using the digital input, the d-pad and buttons.
Jorma uses digital gas/brake, and he used to have several top 100 scores. Digital buttons are faster to press, so you get full gas slightly sooner. But the flip side is that you have to mash the button on steep inclines. It takes some learning to get used to.Originally Posted by xMotionSickness
You can also carve a bigger hole to the analog stick and you can reach 100% on diagonal as wellOriginally Posted by FatShady
This problem will not exist in Evo. The dpad diagonal will give proper speed acceleration (1/sqrt(2) = 0.707 multiplier to x and y axis).
I use D-pad for weight shift, LT for brake, and I vary RT and A for gas depending on the track.
I never felt I got the full forward lean using the stick and for some reason could only clear Goin' Up using the d-pad when I first got to it so it kinda stuck.
I was using the stick alot when I started... Then I switched the the d pad. It took a while to get used to but I really like using the d pad better, I find it faster to shift your weight. And I use the trigger![]()
I remain pure, Stick forever.... I wont give the d pad a chance.
