My Review of Trials Evolution, Ask Questions, With Videos!!!

So i went to Comiccon 2011 and got to play Trials Evo, for those of you that dont know already. I played for like 5 hours or so, and it was fun. Im going to make a big list of things that i find different than HD, better or worse, and just what i thought of the game overall.

    - Switch Jumping is HARD as HELL!!! Its like it no longer works. Bunny hopping as well (they are sort of the same thing i think ) Either way its tough, and i dont really like it. You definitely cant bunny hop even half as high as you could in HD. And when your engine hits the edge of whatever your trying to jump, you come to a complete stop. I dont really like it.

    - I feel like landing on your back tire 1st (you know that little advanced technique where you land on your back tire 1st and do that quick weight shift) isnt as good as it is in HD. I feel like landing flat is better and keep more speed. But this could just be me not used to the physics completely.

    - Bouncing off your front tire (for example when you do a jump and you try to land on your front tire 1st and bounce to gain height for another obstacel right after) doesnt work at all. Like AT ALL. When you land on your front tire you lose practically all speed.

    - The bike feels a lot heavier. Like its tougher to really maneuver. It almost feels like the Phoenix in Evo is like the Scorpion in HD, and the Scorpion in Evo is like a heavier less handle-able version of the Scorpion in HD.

    - There are no more fender hooks. I mean there may be some small small ones like on a plank or such, but nothing major like in HD.

    - You know how in HD you can land on your head, and you'll be on your front tire and head, and then you can weight shift your way back to standing up? Well you cant do that anymore, when you land on your head like that you crash automatically.

-Saves like when your popping a wheelie and you press brake and lean forward to save yourself didnt work for me. Its almost like the brake did nothing, like it was non-existent.

-Something so simple as putting a dynamite box on the floor in HD and flooring it then leaning forward and pressing brake to do a front flip over it barely works. I tried it (minus the dynamite box) for like 15 minutes and got it once. I always hit my head and my rider crashes right away. Like your rider cant handle as much damage in HD, which wasnt much to begin with.

    - From landing flat off of 1 big jump multiple times, my rider only glitched into my bike once. And the controls felt like they didnt work, like that glitch kind of thing in HD. And i also feel from a high height and my front tire completely glitched into the ground, like completely stuck in the ground with the rest of my bike up. But this also happened only once.

    - The lines are sweet. The hard tracks are actually hard. I mean im a good rider and in HD i can hop on any hard track and usually in 1 go 0 fault it. In Evo it would take me 10 minutes to 0 fault just 1 hard track. The tracks are tough. I mean im not completely used to the physics, but the tracks are still pretty tough to me. Also the tracks seem to be longer than most of the hard tracks in HD

    - The physics engine? Its very similar to Trials HD, but jarr3tt said, which me and cypherdextrous agreed to, thats its like Trials HD and Trials 2 SE mixed. Its different in ways but theres still a ton of muscle memory that will just be continued. Its still a good physics engine dont get me wrong, but different, those minor tweaks and such definitely affected it a good amount and it will take some time to really get used to it i think (mentioned most of the changes i noticed in earlier little statements)

    - The environments are SICK!!! They have some crazy objects in there with the terraforming and object scaling, coloring and such. The scenery is definitely amazing!!!

    - The balance ball skill game was awesome. I liked it a lot, it was very unique and a well made track to go along with the new skill game. But as for the UFO skill game, that was terrible. I completely hated it, completely. The controls for it were so sketchy and whole concept was just dumb to me. But thanks RedLynx for not making skill games count in the global leaderboards.

    - The online was also really good. Well balanced. Even if you didnt fault the whole time and took 2nd, and the guy that took 1st faulted once, you would get the same amount of points. 1st place gets 10, 2nd gets 9 and so on. Each fault is -1 point. Its well balanced and i like that a lot.

    - As for the multiplayer tracks, they are also really fun. I thought they would be boring because they are only beginner and 1 medium, but they are actually really fun and with more tracks i can definitely see a lot of people in multiplayer having a really good time. Either racing each other on multiplayer tracks, or racing ghosts on single player tracks, i think both will be really good.

And im pretty sure thats it. Thats all i can remember right now. So if anybody has any questions regarding anything just ask and if i can answer them i definitely will.

    Fixed*

It was nice to meeting you guys.

Jarr3tt found a squirrel. Also xPrOFeSsi0NaL and I might have accidentally scared off a few players that said they were hardcore trials players. Woops BlueMageFTW was handing out Trials Evolution buttons promoting the game and the xbox booth guy was amazed by our playing.

-side note it's legal for a woman to walk around topless/braless in New York. There was a woman outside with her hanging out right in front of a cop. I asked a local and they explained to me that it was legal, this should be legal everywhere. Sorry no pictures besides I couldn't post them here anyway.

^ it just feels different, but it's not Trials HD 2. It's definitely Trials Evolution a new game, but your skill will easily transfer over. I honestly really enjoyed playing it. I really feel like RedLynx is trying to give us a fresh experience. I think I'm just so use to Trials HD that It felt weird to play at first, but It didn't take long to get comfortable with. I'm Glad though, if it were Trials HD 2 I'd probably get bored really quick. Plus the last few runs before I left I started to kinda get a feel for the updated/newer physics and it may be different, but I think it could be different in a better way. I only played it for 2 hours so I can only imagine if I had a whole day with it or a week or a year.

The graphics/visuals are amazing. The curved driving lines add a whole new perspective. The bike almost feels like it has more grip. Just by playing the tracks I can tell the editor will be amazing with endless possibilities. The multiplayer will draw in even the worst/noob players, because it's insanely fun and they'll even have the chance to beat top riders, because of the respawn/checkpoint system. The rider customization looks like it's going to be way more involved just by looking at the level of detail. Just to name a few. It will definitely be the new best Xbox Live Arcade game when it's released I'm sure of it.

Here's my Out of the Pit runs. 2 platinum runs and a fail run. Not the fastest, but not bad for limited practice, plus the replays wouldn't work so these are recorded while I'm actually playing. There's also a couple stunts at the end. Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X6VkaisCuc Here's my times http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...ict0040pl.jpg/ Okay I guess. xPrOFeSsi0NaL got a 47.7xx run, but I zeroed it first. These last 2 runs I tried to beat him, but didn't.

    And here's a big peanut

That build is around 2.5 months old. It's the same build that was shown at Gamescom and PAX.

Much has happened since. Physics and graphics have been improved and track riding lines and background have been tuned to perfection. If I remember correctly, that old build still had problems with bike front wheel colliding with the front fender (and causing it to stop spinning). The physics was also a little bit too stiff in that build (it feels more relaxed now). Of course we are still tuning the physics. In Trials HD we tuned physics until the last weeks of the project. So I wouldn't draw any definite conclusions about the game physics until the final version hits the store.

Out of the Pit was the first extreme test track we had in the game. At start of the project bike had so tricky physics and the stones had so low friction that the track was almost impossible to pass. The track was used extensively to tune the physics to be better and better. Now the track is one of the easiest extreme tracks. If you want something more challenging, try Way of the Ninja instead.

@ sebbbi I figured as much. My first post was a little on the negative side, but did you read the second one? I knew you guys were going to tweak it to perfection, and I knew the demo was an old build. Honestly I'd play it like crazy how it is in that demo. I wanted to play Way of the Ninja, but it wasn't in the demo.

"If I remember correctly, that old build still had problems with bike front wheel colliding with the front fender (and causing it to stop spinning)."

I wish I knew that before I posted. I'll have to re-edit my video and take that part out. I wasn't trying to criticize I thought it was going to be a permanent change.

Sorry Pro, I'm not ignoring you, but I refuse to read up on Evolution material.
